5 Shows When Caught Up with “The Sex Lives of College Girls”
Mindy Kaling has done it again with her new series, “Sex Lives of College Girls,” on HBO Max. Starring Pauline Chalamet as Kimberly, Amrit Kaur as Bela, Reneé Rapp as Leighton, and Alyah Chanelle Scott as Whitney, the four young women couldn’t be more different, but they bond over being away from home for the first time, their sexual explorations, and all the drama that comes along with college.
“The Sex Lives of College Girls” is incredibly relatable and offers an accurate and sometimes awkward look at college life — it’s raunchy and refreshing. If you’re finished with Season 1 and are missing the roomies at Essex, consider binge-watching one of these five TV shows.
Dear White People
“Dear White People” follows a group of Black students attending Winchester University, a predominantly white Ivy League school. The series does an excellent job of exploring activism, racism, politics, and the experience of being college students. There’s also no shortage of love, sex, and relationship drama. “Dear White People” is an emotional and hilarious ride that will have you hooked from the first episode.

Love, Victor
“Love, Victor” was inspired by the movie “Love, Simon.” The series focuses on Victor (Michael Cimino) as he embarks on a journey of self-discovery, which includes accepting his sexuality and coming out to his super religious parents. Victor reaches out to Simon (Nick Robinson), who offers to help him along the way. Over the course of two seasons, “Love, Victor” addresses many issues faced by the LGBTQ+ community and reminds everyone, they’re enough as they are.

Never Have I Ever
If you’re a fan of Kaling’s witty and hilarious content, you’ll love “Never Have I Ever.” The series follows Devi Vishwakumar (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan) a first-generation Indian American teen trying to manage her love life, friendships, rivals, and family, all while dealing with the grief of losing her father. “Never Have I Ever” is pretty much the high school version of “Sex Lives of College Girls.”

Grown-ish
“Grown-ish” is a spinoff of “Black-ish,” but you don’t need to watch the original to enjoy it. The series follows the eldest Johnson child, Zoey (Yara Shahidi), as she heads off to college. Zoey is officially on her own for the first time and is constantly getting in over her head with everything from drugs to relationships. Luckily, she has a great group of friends to keep her grounded.

Girls
“Girls” originally aired in 2012, and it was definitely ahead of its time. Much like “Sex Lives of College Girls,” “Girls” tells the story of a group of friends trying to navigate the highs and lows of life and love. The series was created by Lena Dunham and doesn’t shy away from exploring uncomfortable topics, including trying to lose your virginity, drug and alcohol addiction, and toxic relationships.
