‘Tis the season for 2024 Color of the Year announcements, as paint companies start to reveal the specific shades they expect to dominate the home scene next year. Behr, for example, just unveiled the soft black “Cracked Pepper” shade, while Sherwin-Williams’ HGTV Home line opted for a cheery terracotta-meets-tangerine hue called “Persimmon” (HGSW6339). And today, Valspar joined the color conversation with its own 2024 paint pick: Renew Blue, which the brand describes as “a balanced blue with a touch of grayed sea-green.”

Both simple and soothing, Valspar’s cool-toned 2024 Color of the Year was influenced by nature. “Renew Blue is an incredibly versatile and all-season shade that anyone can envision in their space,” Sue Kim, Valspar director of color marketing, said in a press release. “Inspired by fleeting elements like fog, mist, clouds, and glacier lakes, Renew Blue elevates the everyday mood, encourages self-expression, and evokes a feeling of balance and calm, with a twist of unique spontaneity.”

In recent years, shades of blue and green have ruled interior paint trends, so it only feels fitting that Renew Blue combines both popular color families. Still, this Color of the Year offers a more distinctive approach to the standard light blue palette, almost resembling a subdued, timeless turquoise. “Blue is a classic shade that has become the new neutral for today’s home and can be mixed and matched to fit a variety of design styles and applications,” adds Kim.

That said, the use-anywhere Renew Blue can leave its mark on cabinets, door frames, entryways, and, of course, accent walls or full-scale room makeovers. A little goes a long way with this shade, which especially complements natural finishes or predominantly muted spaces. Valspar also suggests their own color pairings, too: the beige Perfect Backdrop (8005-8B), or the pinkish-gray Dusk in the Valley (8004-3B).

Feeling inspired? Renew Blue is currently available on or in Lowe’s stores nationwide, with options for flat, matte, eggshell, satin, and semi-gloss sheens. Best of all, Renew Blue isn’t limited to just bedrooms or bathrooms — there’s an exterior version of the paint, too, designed for front porches, backyards, and beyond. Because this color’s too pretty, evergreen, and eye-catching not to have somewhere in your space, inside or out (or both!).
