A ‘Victorian Style’ Dutch Rental Apartment Is Romantic, Moody, and Mysterious
Name: Yvette
Location: Oldenzaal — Overijssel, The Netherlands
Type of home: Apartment
Size: 500 square feet
Years lived in: 26 years, renting
Tell us a little (or a lot) about your home and the people who live there: My apartment was built in the early sixties. It’s the first apartment I’ve rented, and after 26 years, I still live here. I totally love my big bedroom (put two rooms in one room). Best decision ever. I’m totally in love the Victorian architecture, but sadly we don’t have those houses in the Netherlands, so I’m trying to create a bit of that style in my home. I love the time period between 1860 to 1930.
I try to create my own style in my home. I don’t do trends! I think if you are following your own style, then that’s the best. It’s important for me to have things that belonged to my family in my home, because that emotional value is so important. I just feel the love from the things that belonged to my grandmother.
Describe your home’s style in 5 words or less: Victorian style, Moody, Romantic, Mystery, Cozy
What is your favorite room and why? My favorite room is definitely my living room. Why? Because there is such an amazing wallpaper on my walls. I start everyday in my green chair with my cup of coffee.
What’s the last thing you bought (or found!) for your home? The latest thing is the floral wallpaper for my living room.
Any advice for creating a home you love? Just follow your feeling. Create how you want to create your home. Don’t be scared, be you, and your home will be amazing. And even with a low budget, you can create the greatest home vibe.
