Gallery walls are a great and timeless way to decorate any space. Lately, though, people have been shaking things up by using more unconventional items in place of framed photos. Things like mirrors, silver platters, and, my favorite, plates, add a textural twist to the classic gallery wall look — and make for a fun, quirky display.

However, it can be difficult to know where to start or how to source pieces for a non-traditional gallery wall. I myself turned to Etsy — and I found the perfect all-in-one solution.

Kaitlin Whitbred, known as Burl & Brass Boutique on Etsy, sells bundles of vintage plates from the 1950s in a wide assortment of colors and patterns. Burl & Brass Boutique is a perfect one-stop shop for those who are interested in freshening up their space quickly, while still achieving that carefully curated, vintage collector look.

Hanging plates on the wall is nothing new; in fact, this design “trend” has been around for over 300 years. Many different cultures have embraced similar displays. Instead of keeping beautiful china locked away in cupboards, many people are now using it as decor — it’s a perfect opportunity to showcase a collection for all to admire.

Whitbred does all the work of finding and collecting vintage plates for you. She sells the plates in sets of three, five, or seven, for about $10 per plate. She also offers bundles that cater to multiple design styles. You can choose from the classic coastal look with “Blues,” get the retro modern look with “Midcentury Modern,” or, for those who want to be completely surprised, there’s ”Designer’s Choice.”

While most examples of this trend can be seen in kitchens, I think one of these plate bundles would look fabulous on any wall, in any room. The Etsy shop’s description says the plates are “perfect for adding charm to your dining room, kitchen, entryway, or breakfast nook.”

Perhaps the most special and whimsical thing about following this trend is that no two plate walls will ever be alike. And it’s never been easier to get the look with shops like these! Investing in a vintage plate bundle (or two) will set you up with the tools you need to create a beautiful statement wall — no matter your personal style preferences.
