If you love shopping for vintage decor, then you already know that the most important thing isn’t having a big budget, lots of time, or even a pickup truck for bulky finds — it’s a big imagination. Most experienced thrifters can tell you at least one story about a time they fell in love with a piece while vintage shopping, but didn’t know how or where they’d use it, and ended up leaving it behind. Now, I’m not saying you should buy every piece you fall in love with, but who knows — maybe it’ll become the one thing you didn’t know you needed.

Instagram creator Laura Vila knows firsthand that it pays to think outside of the box. On a recent trip to Italy, she fell in love with a pair of gorgeous antique sconces and just had to bring them home. So she got creative and decided to style them as flower vases. And yes, she still hung them on the wall! The result was so chic, I couldn’t help but wonder: Shouldn’t we all be putting flowers on our walls? After seeing this trend take off on social media, I’m thinking tabletop vases may soon be an afterthought — and you’ll see why.

Are Wall Vases the Best New Way to Display Florals?

Vila explains that after a few hours scouring the internet, she found a propagation vase that fit perfectly inside the sconce. With a single screw, she created the most gorgeous floral display I’ve seen in ages. It’s styled as a standalone piece in what looks like a transitional area, but I’d also imagine a wall vase would make an incredible addition to a gallery wall.

Not only does Vila’s ingenious hack look incredible, but it could also be a perfect solution for pet owners whose furry friends are a bit too curious (read: troublemakers). I noticed that she included lilies in the bouquet, which are extremely toxic to cats. Hanging your bouquets on the wall could open up a whole new world of possibilities for the lily-loving cat owners out there who can’t keep bouquets within reach anymore.

3 Wall Vases You Didn’t Know You Needed

Now, I don’t happen to have a pair of antique Italian sconces lying around, but I did hope I might also be able to re-create the look — and as it turns out, I must not be the only one thinking about moving their florals to the walls. So before you book that flight to Europe, check out these three super-chic wall vases.

Chris Loves Julia Small Wall-Mounted Brass Vase
$60

This brass wall-mounted vase from Chris Loves Julia at Pottery Barn is definitely the most similar to the vibe of Vila’s setup. Available in two sizes, these cone-shaped vases feature a gorgeous antique finish and mount securely to the wall with four screws.

Glass Wall Vase in Clear by GONE
$265

This hand-blown glass vase from NYC-based studio GONE is obviously a timeless choice. Crafted in organic shapes, these vases are designed to add a “touch of nature” to any space. A hidden hole in the back provides an easy and seamless hanging method.

StoneWon Designs Co. Hanging Propagation Station
$55

The circular silhouette of this wooden wall vase has a distinctly sconce-like feel to it, too. Though it’s decidedly more modern, the classic wood finish makes this vase suitable for any number of decor styles. I could see these handmade beauties being incredible additions to any gallery wall.
