For many wine lovers, an ideal relaxing scenario doesn’t exist without a glass (or two) of vino on deck. Apparently, there’s a new, fancy way to “wine” down, and it takes place inside of a barrel. Trust us when we say it’s a definite upgrade from getting wine drunk on your living room couch.
Located in the Portugal’s world-renowned, award-winning Douro vineyards, the Quinta da Pacheca’s Wine House Hotel combines R&R and the beloved beverage by way of a wine barrel hotel suite that is as cool as it sounds. It’s perfectly suited for wine enthusiasts who’d love nothing more than to uncork a bottle and make a gorgeous vineyard home for a few nights.
Made of wood and metal and named after individual wine grapes, each of the 10 cylindrical structures rooms offers guests nearly 377 square feet of space. The air-conditioned barrels come fully furnished and has an ensuite bathroom with a walk-in shower, as well as circular glass doors, a deck, and a skylight, all of which allow for prime views of the surrounding valley and Duoro River.
Purchased by Maria do Céu Gonçalves and Paula Pereira in 2012, the 140-acre estate is also home to a restaurant. Portuguese dishes and locally-sourced products such as olive oil, jam and obviously, wine, are among its most popular menu items.
The Quinta da Pacheca vineyard currently offers wine tastings, boat, train, and helicopter tours, and cooking events, but future plans include expanding the hotel as well as the addition of a pool and spa.
