York Wallcoverings has announced its 2023 Color of the Year: Amber, a warm, soothing hue that draws inspiration from nature. So far, many brands’ latest Color of the Year selections have prioritized comfort and positivity, and this pick is no exception.

“An organic gemstone made from tree resin, Amber is often associated with absorbing negative energy and releasing bright, soothing energy,” said Carol Miller, trend and color expert for York Wallcoverings, in a press release announcing the news. “When Amber catches the light, it emanates a sense of renewal, energy, and power. With a lot of uncertainty in the world around us, we think that a color that is emblematic of comfort and positive energy around the home is important.”

Amber isn’t just a bright, positive color — it’s also an extremely versatile one.

As Miller also pointed out: “As a hero color, it is rich like luscious honey; when paired with bolder colors, it quickly becomes a warm neutral. It’s found across design aesthetics — think traditional style with Old Master paintings, or contemporary style with oxidized metals. It really is a color that can be embraced no matter one’s personal taste.”

To demonstrate Amber’s range, York Wallcoverings has also released a 2023 Color Trends Palette called “Elements.” Like Amber, each color in the palette is inspired by the natural world in some way, from the forest green “Baja Sage” to the oceanic blue “Aquamarine.”

Additionally, Amber is featured in several of the brand’s wallpaper products, including the chinoiserie-inspired “Mandarin Dream,” the floral “Magic Garden,” and the gingham “Common Thread.”
