The Real Price of a Guest Room: What an Extra Bedroom Costs in SF, Chicago & 32 Other Cities
There’s truly nothing better, to me at least, than sharing your home with family and friends. That’s a big reason why my husband and I sought out a two-bedroom space when we went home shopping last year: We knew we wanted to use the extra space as a guest room to be able to host out-of-town family and friends when they visit. We’re not the only homeowners who made an “extra bedroom” a priority, either.

For Some Seniors, Tiny Houses Are The New RV
Picture this: a caravan of gypsy Grannies and Gramps cruising down Route 66, watering the planter boxes and waving from windows at passersby as they roam cross-country. A scene that may seem downright Lynchian could soon be very real as more and more retirees opt for tiny homes.

We Tested 5 Grocery Delivery Services; Here’s What We Found
There are so many grocery delivery services available now, which makes it almost impossible to choose—especially if you’re totally new to them. I am for sure a procrastinator when it comes to physically going to the store, but I’m also big into planning my meals in advance, so switching to a delivery service seemed ideal to me.

A $699k Storybook Cottage in the Rolling Hills of Bucks County
This charming cottage is in the countryside, but it’s not as far-flung as you might think. This home is small — just under 1,300 square feet — but it’s brimming with charming details (exposed beams! fireplaces!) and thoughtful updates.

Colored Mirrors & Glass Decor Are the (Potential) Trend I Can’t Get Enough Of

Before & After: Two Mid-Century Chairs Get Rescued from the Landfill (& Vamoose Vinyl!)
Vinyl aside, these chairs had a certain je nais se quoi. Stephanie snatched them up from the salvage yard and gave them a loving and era-appropriate upgrade. From Stephanie: These Australian-made mid-century chairs came from the salvage yard at our local landfill. The colors and finishes are different, but I noticed their matching frames under the worn vinyl and busted lacquer finish. Both also had a pivoting metal under frame – so they weren’t just regular armchairs, but recliners!

House Tour Alumni on Their Dirty-Floor Culprits and How They Deal with Them
One of the most fun parts about working at Apartment Therapy is flipping through all those pictures of real families’ beautiful homes. The downside is that we don’t always get to see the (literally) dirty truth. The toddler’s pasta sauce on the floor. The paw prints. The playdough. But psst…all these homes are full of that stuff! So, we called up some of our House Tour alumni and asked what their challenges are to keep clean floors, and how they deal with them.

Never Use Drano, and Other Need-to-Know Tips for Handling Hairy Home Situations
You may love your long hair, but there’s one problem with those lengthy tresses—they shed and get all over the place, turning clean-up into a challenge and making your shower drain a battle zone. You could just adopt the motto “long hair, don’t care” but that won’t stop your stray strands from haunting your home, so it might be better to take some precautions and avoid those hairy home situations altogether.
