Backdrop Just Released a Collaboration With Barbie and It’s An Excuse To Paint Your Own Dreamhouse
If you haven’t heard of Barbiecore, it’s a super popular design trend that revolves around hot pink decor and clothing. Partly inspired by next year’s “Barbie” movie, the trend is essentially a revival of Barbie’s signature Dreamhouse. Whether in the form of different shades of pink or nostalgic touches to a hot pink-filled childhood, it’s clearly inspired a retro renaissance.
To celebrate Barbie’s Dreamhouse’s 60th anniversary, Mattel and its iconic doll collaborated with paint company Backdrop and unveiled new colors including Barbie Dreamhouse Pink, Barbie Dreamhouse Purple, and Barbie Dreamhouse Blue.
According to Natalie Ebel, one of Backdrop’s co-founders, the color palette was intended to encourage long-time Barbie fanatics to “bring a piece of the Dreamhouse into their own interiors.”
“Backdrop has always seen color as the most impactful way to transform your space and approached painting as a joyful form of self-expression,” Ebel added. “As a mother of two young daughters and a woman of Filipino descent, this partnership also has a lot of personal meaning. Barbie’s continuous evolution and spirit of inclusivity provides incredibly powerful role models for young boys and girls.”
Since one of Barbie’s expansive list of careers includes interior designer, you can trust her judgement that these three shades will immerse you into her pastel world. After all, Aimee London, the Vice President for Global Franchise Marketing at Mattel, mentioned that incorporating the paint collection into your space is “a perfect way to celebrate this milestone anniversary.”
Each of the colors are available on Backdrop’s website and are priced at $45 for a half gallon and $69 for a gallon. Backdrop’s latest announcement is welcomed by other brands like Dutch Boy, GLIDDEN, Valspar, and HGTV by Sherwin-Williams that have revealed their color choices for 2023.
