The Best Dog Beds

While the world of pet accessories has come a long way in the past few years, it can sometimes take a little work to find a dog bed that's worthy of your canine companion and your home. Fortunately there are a variety of super stylish options out there that don't look like a lumpy cushion lifted from an abandoned '80s motorhome (you know the look). Feast your eyes on these adorable dog beds in a variety of styles that will fit your home's design scheme. Dogs not included.

Maxwell's Favorite:

As a brand new owner of two rescue dogs (yep, only three weeks in) I have to confess that this category is brand new, but important to me. I bought a simple, cheap dog bed and would love to upgrade it to one of these.

What I've found to be important—aside from style—is that I appreciate a soft bed that can be easily be picked up and crammed in a car or into a crate without difficulty. Having a rigid shape is a liability in my book. I also like a bed that can be easily cleaned (my dogs had diarrhea all last weekend. Total mess.) with the cover coming off, etc...

In terms of style, that's totally subjective, but the soft, pillow style Parachute bed above is my current fave.

A simple, good-looking bed made of durable polyester fabric, this pick found on Mission Pets is great for any spot in your home. With three sizes and six colors to choose from, it's also pretty customizable — for an extra $15 you can get personal monogramming to make your pup feel extra special. Plus, you can purchase the covers without the inserts, allowing you to switch things up if you so choose.

From Urban Outfitters comes this trendier, more boho-inspired bed designed by Amy Sia with Deny Designs. It has a waterproof bottom topped with a cozy fleece printed in an eclectic tie-dye pattern, which can all be removed for washing. This bed only comes in one size, and it's best for small to mid-sized pups, but the fun design makes it feel like an actual decor piece for your space.

Handcrafted in Los Angeles but influenced by the Oaxaca region of Mexico, all of Salvage Maria's products are colorful, patterned and refreshingly different in a sea of dark dog beds. Each bed is created from upcycled clothing, which is then turned into yarn and woven by hand in Mexico using a traditional loom. The result is one-of-a-kind and seriously special... just like your fur baby!

This cute little dog bed is perfect for extra snuggly pups. With its soft faux fur shell and round donut shape, it's ultra comfortable, plus the raised outer rim provides extra support and a sense of security. It's also fully machine-washable and comes in four sizes to suit all pets — just be careful that your furry friend isn't prone to chewing, as the material isn't the most durable.

This brand new dog bed just launched this week on Indiegogo and we're in love. 100% machine-washable from the inside out and actually cute enough to get excited about, the GEMMA bed also has a social conscious — it's made out of recycled plastic bottles, and sales benefit life-saving animal organizations. This bed is just the first product created by GEMMA, and we're so excited to see what's to come!

Another great snuggly pick, this bed found on Dog & Co has a modern, neutral print that will look good in your space. Each bed is made to order and there are three sizes to choose from, as well as a couple different patterns if stripes aren't your thing. The cotton cover is machine-washable, but keep in mind that the inserts are not — you'll want to keep it away from puppies prone to accidents until they're a bit older.

Our office dog Zuzu's favorite bed (see the lead image!), the Casper is, as you can imagine, engineered to be as comfortable and supportive as your own bed. After all, your pet already loves your bed — why not get them a mini version of it? Here's what you'll find in a Casper dog bed: memory foam, excess (and seriously durable) material on top to mimic dogs' natural tendency to paw at the earth, and supportive foam bolsters to create a feeling of shelter.

Specially made with senior dogs in mind, this 5" thick bed cushions pressure points to ease any muscle or joint strain on your pup. The memory foam core is shredded and then packed for that perfect balance of comfort and firmness, which also means that it won't lose its shape over time. Plus, you're doing good — 10 percent of Better World Pets's profits go to the Humane Society, benefiting animals across the country.

Marketed as a couch rather than a bed, this plush pick has the elevated sides dogs love, but with a dipped entry to make it easier for older dogs to get into. Super cozy and comfortable, it has a memory foam core and machine-washable cover —plus that plush center, which looks straight up luxurious. It only comes in large and XL sizes, so your pet will have plenty of space to get comfortable.

Suitable for all dogs but especially those suffering from arthritis or joint pain, this bed is made up of two layers of CertiPUR-US certified foams and is crafted using only non-toxic materials. Made with quality and durability in mind, it's constructed using furniture-grade fabric and lock-stitching, so it'll hold up well against scratching and biting.

Designed to be used outdoors, this elevated bed keeps your pup away from bugs, dirt and moisture so they can relax in comfort. It's made out of breathable fabric that offers good air ventilation to keep your dog cool on hot days, and when not in use it folds flat for easy storage. It's not the prettiest bed, but it's an inexpensive and comfortable way to lounge with your best friend outside.

Another great choice for outdoor lounging, this bed has a mesh center to keep your pup cool, as well as a removable three-sided bolster for extra comfort and security. The material is waterproof (ideal for outdoor use), and the non-skid rubber feet are good features to have for rough play. The neutral color isn't exactly striking, but it will blend in easily with its surroundings.

This lovely mid-century style bed comes from Etsy shop Cozy Cama. Made to order and crafted out of real wood (you can choose from maple, cherry or walnut), every part of the design is thoughtful. The beds are meant to fit human pillow sizes (standard, queen and king), so you can easily wash and replace pillows and shams as needed. Every bed can be customized, and only non-toxic finishes are used to ensure your pet's safety. Overall, it's just a really beautiful, well-made piece of furniture that's totally worth the high price.
