We Tested (and Rated!) Every Dining Table at West Elm — Here Are the Best to Suit Your Style and Space
Next to foundational furniture pieces like your bed frame or sofa, dining tables are a major essential home investment. Pick the right one, and it’ll be in yours for a lifetime. Fortunately, West Elm has a ton of exceptionally stylish and high-quality options to consider on your search. That’s why the retailer was one of our first stops in our Personal Shopper series. It’s been a few years since then, so we decided to circle back to test every West Elm dining table on the showroom floor right now — and reexamine our favorites to see if they still hold up.
After testing upwards of 20 dining tables, we narrowed it down to the 10 best West Elm dining tables for every style and need. Keep reading to see which is right for you.
Why West Elm?
West Elm is an AT editor- and reader-favorite retailer for all things home and kitchen, including, of course, dining room furniture. The brand’s vast selection not only looks good but can also be delivered directly to your dining area with white-glove delivery.
West Elm also offers free furniture customization and design guidance as well as complimentary swatches from a plethora of upholstery options to help you find your ideal materials and colors. Read on for the exact dining table models we tested, and note that you can also find many of them in different sizes, finishes, and variations.
The Criteria
We judged every West Elm table in-store based on the following five criteria to help us determine who the table suits best.
- Capacity: How many people can fit around the table? Are any structural or design elements (i.e., beams, legs, etc.) obtrusive?
- Customizability: Are size, configuration, material, color, or other details customizable? How granular can a shopper get when customizing?
- Versatility: Can the table expand or change size? How difficult would it be to assemble, disassemble, or move? Can it be used as more than just a dining table?
- Appearance: What style does it best suit? Does it lean more traditional (i.e., detailing, dark wood) or more contemporary (i.e., sleek, light wood)?
- Quality: Is the table built for looks or to last? Are its materials more basic (and typically easy to maintain) or more luxe and uncommon?
Why You Should Trust Us as Testers
Every West Elm dining table was first tested by our former shopping writer Nikol Slatinska. She tested and reviewed furniture for the Personal Shopper series to help readers find the best pieces for their homes, especially those in small spaces. She covered it all — from sofas and bed frames to dining tables and accent chairs.
Recently I visited West Elm’s NYC store to retest their dining tables and evaluate all the new models that have launched since Nikol’s original review. It’s essentially my job to test, review, and recommend products, whether it’s easy-to-assemble bed frames, modular sofas, coffee tables, and anything else you may be looking for. I’ve covered them all, so I know what makes a piece of furniture worth buying. I was previously the commerce editor at Design Milk and Well+Good.
The Best Editor-Tested West Elm Dining Tables
Best Bistro: Mosco Bistro Table (32”)
What impressed us: If you want the small footprint of a bistro table, and the warmth of a heritage furniture piece, the Mosco table is all of that, and then some. The pedestal base gives it a modern vibe (and frees up legroom down below) that contrasts beautifully against the homey and rustic look of the walnut finish we looked at in-store. I loved the smooth, rounded edges, too. They soften the silhouette and make it a safer option if you’ve got kids running around.
The Mosco table also comes in two sizes: a 32-inch-wide model that seats three people and a 42-inch-wide model that can fit four. Either one is a shoo-in for small apartments, in my opinion, and you could even pair it with a banquet to form a cozy dining nook!
What we love
- It’s perfect for small spaces
- The sleek pedestal base
- The stylish rounded edges
- Its rich wood finish
- It’s modern but homey
Good to know
- It comes in two sizes
- It can be paired with banquet seating to form a cozy nook
Specifications:
- Dimensions: 32″ diameter, 29.4″ high
- Sizes: 32” and 42”
- Finishes: two wood finishes
- Seats: 2-3
- Materials: Solid acacia wood top and base, metal apron and plate under the base
Best Luxury: Calum Marble Bistro Table (42″)
What impressed us: Everything at West Elm is luxe, but the Calum dining table takes it to a whole other level. Its Sawar marble top has gorgeous veining throughout, which makes even the most basic of dinners look and feel like a fancy gourmet treat — just try to avoid spills to prevent staining the marble.
The Calum table is anchored by a solid, acacia wood pedestal base that has the coolest cutout details, which give it a sculptural appearance. It packs serious style into a compact footprint! The 42-inch-wide silhouette is small-space friendly and comfortably seats four people, so you’ll always have a spot for a surprise guest.
What we love
- The luxe marble top
- The sculptural, solid-wood base
- It’s small-space friendly
- The cutout details
Good to know
- It’s incredibly heavy
- The marble is prone to staining
- It only comes in one finish
Specifications:
- Dimensions: 42″ diameter, 30″ high
- Seats: 4
- Materials: Sawar marble top, solid acacia wood base
Best Indoor/Outdoor: Fluted Indoor/Outdoor Bistro Table (44″)
What impressed us: This fluted dining table looks so contemporary, I never would’ve guessed that it’s outdoor-friendly. It’s made of glass fiber reinforced concrete, which gives you the durability of the regular concrete with less weight. What’s more, its sculptural silhouette is softened by the fluted finish on the pedestal base.
While examining the dining table in-store, I was struck by its organic texture and the speckled Alabaster surface — it looks even better up close! If you’re making over your outdoor space, or want to bring an organic edge to your indoor dining area, I say you can’t go wrong with this model.
What we love
- The contemporary appearance
- It’s lighter than regular concrete
- The organic texture
- The stylish fluted base
- The speckled tabletop
- It’s perfect for indoor and outdoor use
Good to know
- It only comes in one size and finish
Specifications:
- Styles: Also available as an outdoor oval dining table

- Seats: 4
- Materials: Glass fiber reinforced concrete
Best Classic: Keira Solid Wood Expandable Dining Table
What impressed us: Solid acacia wood in three timeless finishes makes the Keira expandable dining table one that’ll stand the test of time. Kiln dried for reinforced durability, it’s also expandable thanks to an included drop-in leaf that goes in the center of the table. Its legs even have levelers built in, which allow the table to adapt to varying floor levels. Wherever you move, however you redecorate, whatever you use it for the most, the Keira is an understated classic built to last through it all.
What we love
- The expandable design is great for hosting
- It has a sleek, timeless look
- The legs have built-in levelers

Best Glass Top: Jensen Round Dining Table
What impressed us: The vintage-inspired Jensen table stuns with its uniquely shaped wooden base, which is nicely contrasted with a round glass top. We also viewed a rectangular version but prefer the safe, curved edges of this model, as well as its more intimate size. Specifically, it can comfortably seat up to four people without taking up as much space as many four-sided tables.
Regardless of whether you go with an acorn or walnut base, the Jensen will instantly add warmth to your dining area. And at just $599, it’s easily one of West Elm’s more affordable options. You’ll want to be careful, however, as the glass does appear to accumulate scratches with time. But, a couple of place mats should help remedy the issue.
What we love
- The retro appearance
- The unique wooden base
- It's great for small spaces
- It's one of the more affordable West Elm pieces
Good to know
- It can seat up to four people
- The glass top is prone to scratching
Specifications:
- Styles: Also available as a rectangular dining table
- Dimensions: 42” long, 42” wide, and 30” high
- Finishes: 1 option
- Seats: Up to 4 people
- Material: Wood and glass
Best Statement Maker: Anton Solid Wood Dining Table
What impressed us: One of West Elm’s best-selling dining tables, theAnton dining table has the sleek symmetry and natural-wood aesthetic expected of an MCM piece, but with a striking level of minimalism that makes it feel more modern than mid-century. After taking a closer look during this recent trip, I fell in love with its soft, minimalist look. Its gently rounded edges and striking plinth-style legs give the ornament-free silhouette elegance and sophistication, while also leaving plenty of room for everyone’s legs. It’ll be the focal point of your dining room!

Best Mid-Century Modern: Mid-Century Expandable Dining Table
What impressed us: Even after reevaluating every dining table West Elm has to offer, the Mid-Century dining table is still well deserving of its refreshingly straightforward name. Its slender, angled legs, clean lines, and warm acorn finish give it the charm of a vintage treasure. While the drop-in leaf extension makes it a functional choice if you like to host.
The dining table comes in two other sizes, both of which are also expandable, so you’ve got options. And it features a sustainably sourced and Fair Trade-certified solid wood frame, and kiln dried for high-quality durability over time. It’s a table you’ll keep forever!

Best Modern: Parker Expandable Table
What impressed us: If you can’t tell by now, we’re big fans of expandable dining tables. The Parker model is no exception, especially when you consider its soft edges, minimal design, and tapered, out-of-the-way legs.
Up close, its finish looks glossy and feels slightly textured, which adds visual interest to the otherwise simple table. What’s more, you get plenty of surface area no matter which size you opt for. You can choose between the smallest size, which seats four to six people, and a larger size that seats between six and eight.
Together, all of its elements make the Parker a refined choice for those who prefer a more grown-up aesthetic, yet it still remains practical for small and large parties alike.

But when you need a little extra space, you can drop one leaf or both to make more room.
Its space-saving design isn’t the only thing to love. The table has a contemporary with a pedestal base that boasts clean lines. The look is completed with a light wood finish that can brighten up any home. For those living in small spaces or apartments who like to host, the Rowe is our pick.

What impressed us: Working from your dining room table? No problem. Technically, with the right seating, all of the tables in this list are suitable to some degree. Simply lift either or both leaves and easily hinge the support beams underneath to secure them seamlessly. Able to fit four people comfortably — up to six if you really like each other — the Box Frame works triple-duty as a table for many, a table for few, and a desk for remote workers.

What impressed us: A solid dining table option for households of one or two, the Tripod has a trendy, restaurant feel to it. Its robust dark wood allows it to stand out without feeling obtrusive, especially if paired with mid-century modern dining chairs with straight, slender legs or — better yet — unique upholstered armchairs.
The Tripod has the capacity to be a centerpiece all on its own, but it’s also humble enough to simply add to your current decor. It’s practically made for enjoying intimate meals, conversations, and happy hours with your nearest and dearest.

Best Fashion-Forward: Ellington Oval Pedestal Dining Table
What impressed us: If any table in West Elm’s showroom has the power to stop you in your tracks, it’s the Ellington thanks to its oval-shaped surface and oversized half-cylinder legs. The hefty bases boast intricate fluting, which will bring texture to the space and almost serve as decor in itself. Whether you sit down to intimate dinners for four every night or prefer to entertain large groups, this trendy pick will instantly let guests know you have great taste. And, whereas many of the retailer’s dining tables fall into either the small-space-friendly or oversized categories, this one is a solid medium-size option.

Best for Entertaining: Branton Expandable Dining Table
What impressed us: With its expandable design and drop-in leaf, the Branton is the table you want in your dining room if you’re the designated host of your friend group. We also love its chunky round legs, which sit out of the way, and the similarly rounded corners that not only make the table a tad safer for kids, but also give it a homey look.
Although you can shop the Branton in a blond oak finish, the rich walnut option is divine, especially if you’re after a warm aesthetic. The table is also incredibly versatile. The model I saw in-store was styled with a dining bench and chairs, though you easily opt for two benches to squeeze more people around the table. Its sprawling surface area is a blank canvas for building a beautiful tablescape, too. You could keep it simple with neutral-colored table linens and other organic shapes, or dress it up with flashier decor for celebratory occasions.

Best for Families: Miles Expandable Dining Table
What impressed us: Like the Branton table, the Miles table has rounded legs and edges, which is one reason we deemed it the best pick for families. Accidents tend to happen frequently if you have small children, but at least they won’t run into any sharp corners. What’s more, the Miles model is contract-grade, so it can stand up to heavy traffic without becoming worn down.
Built-in leg levelers mean you’ll also never experience wobbling, while the “Toasted Oak” finish lends a warm, inviting ambience to the otherwise grand piece. And, should you want to add seating for extended relatives, the included drop-in leaf lets you do that.
