This TikToker Uses a Bike Rack to Make Small Spaces Guest-Friendly

Small-space entertaining is totally doable, but definitely not effortless. One of the biggest challenges is storing all of the extra supplies needed to host a crowd. Folding chairs are the worst, either buried deep in a coat closet or stashed under the bed, and the latter makes vacuuming a pain. 

Medina Grillo of Grillo Designs (@grillodesigns) shared an ingenious solution for this problem on TikTok: Using a bike rack to store folding chairs on the wall. When even unexpected guests arrive, you can easily grab an extra chair with one hand, no untangling from the under-bed stack required. “This idea is great for small spaces, as the chairs are out of the way until you next need them,” she says in the video.

Granted, her beautiful vintage chairs also double as wall art, but IKEA has plenty of affordable folding chair options worthy of being displayed. If eye-catching folding chairs aren’t in the budget, you could hang standard chairs on a wall in a less-trafficked part of your home. They will still be easier to access than before. 

To make the magic happen, you’ll need a drill, and you’ll want to install your racks on studs so they can hold the weight of the chairs, even if you opt for lightweight IKEA options. You can purchase standard black hooks as Grillo did, or go for something warmer like this wood and stainless steel version on Amazon. 

You don’t have to choose between a clutter-free home and ample seating for your guests. You just need to look up.
