Costco Is Selling a Portable Sauna That’s Perfect for Small Spaces
Recently, I visited a Sauna House, where you can use a sauna, bathhouse, and cold plunge all in one location, and sweated it out with about eight strangers. Although the experience of moving from sauna to cold plunge was peaceful, it was in the hours after that I really felt different — lighter, healthier, and more awake.
Unfortunately, I live a little over two hours away from the nearest location, and while re-creating a cold plunge at home isn’t too hard with a tub and some ice, I always thought building or dedicating a space to a sauna would be a lot more difficult. That is, until I saw the Homedics Saunazen Portable Steam Sauna from Costco, which got me wondering if I could re-create my blissful Sauna House experience at home.
Why Costco’s Homedics Saunazen Portable Steam Sauna Is So Great for Small Spaces
Costco’s collapsible and portable sauna is just under 5 feet tall with an interior that’s almost a 3-by-3-foot square. The unit includes a collapsible tent, foldable stool, and a steam machine to mimic a sauna experience.
It comes with a guide that promises to walk you through the setup in just one minute, and then it’s ready for a soothing steam session in 10-15 minutes (it heats up to 115°F and steams up to 100% humidity). The best part, especially for people living in small spaces is that you can place the tent anywhere you have room — in your living room for a self-care moment between episodes of TV, outside on your porch, in your bathroom — and then you can fold the sauna up and stow it away when you’re not using it, unlike a traditional wooden hothouse.
While the Costco site shows that this unit is available online only for $149.99, a recent Instagram post from Costco Buys shows a boxed sauna in a cart, so check give your local store a call before buying online if you want it right away. While some commenters joke that they may as well sit in their garage due to the summer heat, others sing the praises of a portable sauna.
An Alternative to Shop if You Don’t Have a Costco Membership
If you don’t happen to have a Costco membership, this highly rated portable sauna from Amazon is almost a foot taller with a more rectangular shape. Plus, it’s on sale for $149.98 (normally $179.99), which makes it similarly priced to the Costco one!
No matter where you buy your collapsible sauna, it’s important to make sure you’re properly draining and drying it before storing it. One comment on the Costco Buy post warns that the unit needs to be cleaned and free of moisture post-use to prevent mold from growing in between steam sessions. Especially as we look ahead to the colder months ahead, an at-home sauna is like a lovely way to spend 15 minutes warming up and lowering stress.
