I’m Super Picky About Bedding, but I’m Recommending These Ultra-Soft Flannel Sheets to Everyone I Know (They’re On Sale!)
I’ve tested a lot of different bedding during my home editor tenure, and have since found my all-time, never-go-back-to-anything-else favorite sheets and quilt. Which, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I L-O-V-E my current bed setup, and I’m honestly skeptical of adding anything new to the sleeping equation. No thanks to my least favorite season, though, winter’s arrival has recently forced me to trade my usual sheet set for a more cold-weather-friendly reinforcement: flannel.
Historically, I’ve had a love-hate relationship with flannel sheets: they’re warm, yes, but I don’t think of them as particularly pleasant or comfy overall. Heck, they’re even full-on static-y sometimes. But a few weeks ago, after the first truly chilly NYC day, I bit the bullet and dug out my under-bed storage to investigate what layers I had on hand (and yes, I have a whole organizer dedicated to extra bedding). I was excited to (re)discover Coyuchi’s organic flannel sheet set, which I tested for Apartment Therapy’s Best List last year, but they had arrived closer to spring so I only experienced their full cozy treatment for a few nights — until now. This marks my first full winter sleeping on them continuously, and if I (or our Best List) have anything to say about it, let this be the only set of flannel sheets you ever buy, period.
There’s a reason — well, many — that Coyuchi’s Cloud Brushed organic flannel sheets were ranked by our team as the Best Luxury set. Made from 100 percent organic cotton, this bedding rivals every other flannel set I’ve used in terms of both comfort and durability. Where similar counterparts often have a tendency to wear out over time, these tout a smooth design that’s resistant to pilling while staying oh-so-soft, even after washing (and yes, they’re machine-washable and dryer-friendly). In fact, the set’s superior, cuddle-worthy softness deserves another moment of recognition here, because its surprisingly velvety texture has restored my faith in flannel sheets as a whole and makes me all the more excited for bedtime.
I also love the heavyweight-yet-still-breathable feel of Coyuchi’s flannel bedding: They add a much-needed layer of warmth to my bed every night, without bordering on overly stuffy or sweat-inducing. I tend to sleep hot, especially in the winter with my apartment’s radiator on full blast (IYKYK), so they’re perfect for all temperature preferences whether you snooze solo or with a partner. I’m admittedly a huge tosser-and-turner, too, and these sheets do not budge…like, at all. Once I make my queen-sized bed with them, they’re officially locked in place until my next laundry day.
Coyuchi’s organic flannel sheet set includes a flat sheet, fitted sheet, and two pillowcases, plus comes in seven different color and print options. I have the classic undyed version, but you can opt for white, stripes, or even a pretty green shade, just to name a few. The collection ranges from twin to California King sizes starting at $198, as well a la carte pillowcases and fitted sheets priced at $48-$148, if you’re anti-top sheet. For a queen bed specifically, the four-piece flannel set costs $268 — which, I know, is expensive. But if you want to treat yourself to the softest, most high-end-feeling flannel sheets that will last winter after winter, you can’t do better than Coyuchi’s editor-approved, worth-every-penny organic sheets, especially given they’re marked down to an incredible $201 (with free shipping) during the brand’s Black Friday sale! As much as I hate the cold, these sheets have me, dare I say, almost dreading their inevitable springtime swap out. They’re that good (and remember, I’m picky!).
