If you’re an IKEA stan like I am, you probably already know about IKEA’s HEMNES shoe cabinet. It’s arguably one of the most popular (and small-space-savvy) shoe organization storage solutions out there. It has a massive cult following — especially among the DIY IKEA hacking community. That’s why I was so surprised when I saw that this ultra-popular shoe storage solution will be a thing of IKEA lore soon, because it’s quietly getting discontinued.

On IKEA’s website, the HEMNES shoe cabinet with two compartments is now labeled as “last chance to buy,” meaning the Swedish retailer doesn’t have plans to restock it once the current inventory sells out. At $169.99, the shoe cabinet — which measures 35 inches in width, 11.75 inches in depth, and 50 inches in height — is a relatively affordable and efficiently designed solution that also happens to look great wherever you have it displayed in your home.

On the outside, the shoe cabinet has the signature HEMNES aesthetic with a streamlined white wood body, dark modern handles, and a 4.75-inch gap between the bottom and the floor. Inside, there are two drawers that pull out to reveal four different shelves for shoes whenever you need to access them — and when you’re done, you simply close the drawers to tuck your shoes out of sight.

The cabinet also has a separate drawer above the shoe organizers, ventilators at the bottom of the drawers to prevent stinky footwear, as well as storage space on the surface. Unsurprisingly, IKEA customers are big fans of the piece, with one calling it “the best shoe storage [they have] ever purchased.”

One commenter called out the “perfect” measurements of the drawers — 9.5 inches in depth and 27.5 inches in width. “The unit has enough room to fit six pairs of my spouse’s size 13 shoes in his pull-out which is unheard of! Now I (and the children) get an entire pull-out to ourselves. It has a narrow profile which fits so perfectly in the hallway without being intrusive at all.”

Not only is it a more hygienic and attractive option than an open-air shoe shelving solution, but it’s also a small-space hero. Another happy buyer wrote, “We have a small house and are preparing for a new addition; this helped us clear out our hall closet so we can use that space for something else.”

Because it’s your last chance to grab the HEMNES shoe cabinet before it’s gone, you’ll want to check online or call your closest stores to see if it’s still in stock for delivery or pickup. If not, Amazon sells a shoe storage option that costs $109.98 and looks pretty similar — while taking up even less valuable square footage.

The Haotian Shoe Cabinet with 2 Flip-Drawers measures 7.1 inches in depth, 29.9 inches in width, and 30.7 inches in height. It also can be displayed flush against the wall while barely encroaching into your space, and one Apartment Therapy writer said it was the only product that made her entryway “functional” in her small studio apartment, which is a pretty ringing endorsement.

However, there are several drawbacks compared to the IKEA one: For one, there’s no extra drawer at the top, and the pull-out drawers only house one row of shoes instead of two. Still, with the relatively affordable price and the sleek 7.1-inch depth that ekes out a little extra storage, this might be an even better option for tight spaces like a hallway, entryway, or small closet.
