Working for a design blog means spending a lot of time looking at beautiful things you can’t afford. Often, the pieces that seem to crop up over and over again in stylish interiors — like the Eames Lounger or the Saarinen Tulip Table — are pretty pricey, and beyond the reach of the average apartment dweller. But lately, there’s one affordable piece that I’ve been seeing absolutely everywhere. It may not surprise you that it’s from IKEA, but it might surprise you that a lamp that costs less than $20 can look this good.

The lamp I have in mind is IKEA’s Ranarp Spotlight, which besides being very stylish is also very flexible — you can clip it to a shelf, or to your headboard, or mount it on the wall, which makes for a nice, minimal look and also saves space one the top of your nightstand, an important consideration in a small space. And the best thing of all is that it’s only $19.99.

Simple neutrals predominate in this bedroom from Decor8, but a little texture keeps things interesting.

This pic is from IKEA itself, via Livet Hemma, so that’s sort of cheating, but I couldn’t resist the way the clean, minimal shape of the lamp complements the all-white room. (That headboard also looks like a good DIY project.)

You might have been noticing a theme here, which is that the Ranarp is a popular choice for very minimal, simply styled rooms. This one is from The Marion House Book.

While most of these bedrooms are white, the Ranarp can also looks particularly nice against a dark wall, as seen on Making Spaces.

There’s also a black Ranarp, which you can see in this shot from IKEA. If you’re looking to add a little contrast to your bedroom, this might be just the right thing.

If you dig the look of the Ranarp but have different lighting needs, the style is available as pendants and a 3-light ceiling track. Also, in the course of creating this post, I learned that there’s an entire Instagram devoted to pictures of interiors with IKEA lamps. So, if you’re into that kind of thing: you’re welcome.
