Calling all Neatniks: IKEA’s Pegboard System Finally Hits US
Pegboard and IKEA seem like a match made in heaven and now we can enjoy this marriage here on earth. Released in Europe and other parts of the world last spring under the name SKADIS, the line just landed here in the U.S. and neatniks everywhere can rejoice.
The basic SKADIS board comes in three sizes priced between $8-$16. The hole pattern is patented and unique to IKEA so you’ll likely want to use their range of about a dozen accessories which include hooks, a shelf, containers (with or without lids), elastic cords, tool holders, letter holders, roll holders and a storage bag, most costing just a few dollars. There are connectors which allow you to attach it to their ALGOT closet system and it can be used on both sides if you want to make a wall divider. You can check out the full SKADIS line here.
One of the most versatile tools in an organizer’s arsenal, pegboard can be used in any room of your home. Below are a handful of ideas for where and how to use SKADIS from the minds of IKEA stylists as well as some real world early adopters.
Styled by IKEA in this colorful bathroom setup, the SKADIS has been tested and approved for bathroom use. I’m not convinced it should replace a proper medicine cabinet, but it would be a nice supplement if you have the wall space.
Pegboard is an ideal way to store jewelry and can be easily adapted as your collection grows and changes.
Not a fan of displaying all your things for the world to see? Here, IKEA has installed a SKADIS panel inside an IVAR cabinet for hidden storage opportunities.
Have you seen the SKADIS system in your local store yet?
