This New IKEA Bed Looks So High-End, I’m Shocked at the Price (It’s Seriously Stunning!)
There’s something so undeniably chic about an upholstered bed or headboard … and, sadly, most I’ve seen are priced accordingly at well over $1,000. I just discovered a new arrival at IKEA, though, that’s less than $400 — and it looks so much more expensive than it actually is.
Available in full, queen, and king sizes, IKEA’s TÄRNKULLEN upholstered bed frame features a loose-fitting beige slipcover on the headboard and separate matching skirt panels that attach with Velcro. In fact, both sets of covers — made from a 90% recycled polyester fabric — can be removed and washed to keep them in pristine condition.
The TÄRNKULLEN bed manages to feel both minimalist and elevated, thanks to its pair-with-anything neutral fabric and detailed stitching. It’s the perfect foundation for layering in bedding that matches your design style, too, whether you prefer colorful patterned duvets or a classic striped sheet set. And unlike other comparable upholstered beds, the fabric fully covers the headboard frame (versus headboards with visible metal legs attached) for a luxurious aesthetic from any angle.
This new piece is similar to IKEA’s upholstered HAUGA storage bed, which, although the TÄRNKULLEN doesn’t have built-in drawers, you can still access and conceal under-bed storage from behind the bed skirt. It’s fairly low-profile, too, at just 44 7/8” tall, making it ideal for not overcrowding small bedrooms or styling in front of a window.
“This bed is incredible!” one reviewer wrote on the IKEA website. “It is so well-made and super sturdy. It definitely looks high-end. I wanted a bed frame with a bed skirt, and the skirt is made with thick material and the Velcro is brilliant; the bed skirt stays in place. The lines are classic and timeless and I hope that vendors on Etsy and other sites make slipcovers for this bed frame in different patterns. If you are on the fence, BUY THIS BED — you will not be disappointed.”
Prices range from $329 for the full size, $379 for the queen, and $479 for a king bed — all of which are a huge fraction of the cost compared to similar skirted upholstered designs. You can count on comfort and durability, too, because of its supportive slatted base and the cushy padding in the headboard. If you buy anything for your bedroom this year, let it be this versatile, easy-to-clean bed that you’d never guess came from IKEA.
