When we were looking for a home to purchase many years ago, we spotted our current home because it had a circular detail that just stood out from the rest. It was still being built at the time of purchase, and we were excited to be able to select some of the finishing touches. We were a young family at that time, and our kids were growing up, so it was important for us to have a home for them. This is definitely a family-friendly neighborhood where you know your neighbors.

When the home was purchased, the bonus room wasn’t complete. We completed it a couple of years later, which is now our home theatre. My husband spends many hours laying back in his recliner seats watching movies or playing pool. I enjoy curling up in front of the fire with a glass of wine and a home décor magazine.

Our boys are grown and gone, but we love this house even more now that I’ve been able to curate the space that we currently have. Every detail has been carefully thought out, and I am always eager to get back home because I love it so much!!!

Apartment Therapy Survey:

My Style: Modern Contemporary, World Traveled

Inspiration: I draw my inspiration from everywhere: my travels, colors, life experiences, and sounds. I also peruse magazines and Instagram for additional inspiration.

Favorite Element: I am in love with my all black living room, from the black walls, black fireplace to the two black Article chairs. The kitchen comes neck and neck with how much I adore it. It is my most recent completed project and everything about is lovely.

Biggest Challenge: My home is a nice size, and I didn’t want it to feel empty or overcrowded. It was a challenge in the beginning to determine how I wanted it to flow and feel with just the right pieces to make it nice and cozy. I wanted the space to feel like we can entertain in it but also kick our shoes off and watch a movie. I wanted it to have a balance of a fully grown up space yet feel lived in.

Proudest DIY: My most recent project is my kitchen refresh. From the Elkay sink and faucet, Tile Shop backsplash, and butcher block countertops all made this kitchen stand out. All the elements work together to blend in the all-white painted cabinets, and the red vintage runner brings the entire space together.

Biggest Indulgence: The walnut butcher block countertop for the kitchen refresh was the most expensive recently purchased element, and it was so worth it. My kitchen would not be the love of my life without these countertops.

Is there something unique about your home or the way you use it? My dining room has been turned into my home office and one of the bedrooms is my closet room with the vanity in the bedroom closet. I believe every room in a space should be used and occupied based on the homeowner’s needs. I needed a home office for my design business, and I have way to many clothes for a regular size walk-in closet so I utilized my space by making them what I needed.

What are your favorite products you have bought for your home and why? My black Article chairs that I purchased as part of my living room refresh is one of my favorite items. The chairs are oversized, which allows me to comfortably kick off my shoes and curl up with a book. It is so soft that you just melt into the seat.

Please describe any helpful, inspiring, brilliant, or just plain useful small space maximizing and/or organizing tips you have: I am a big advocate for maximizing a small space by using baskets/containers to organize items. For example, I use containers to store snacks in my small pantry along with a Lazy Susan for my spices. It helps to keep everything all put together but accessible. In the laundry room, I needed a mud room, but don’t have the space, so I created one by using hooks to hang jackets, and I was able to add a small bench.

Finally, what’s your absolute best home secret or decorating advice? My best advice is to love the space you are currently in. Appreciate what you already have before you start making changes to your space. Once you already love it, it will help you to fully visualize how you want the space to look, feel, and function for you and your family.
