I have somewhat of a love-hate relationship with weighted blankets. They always sound great in theory, and I know they’re meant to be a stress reliever, but using one tends to send me into more of a “Help, I’m trapped” spiral than a “Wow, I could sleep with this every night” relaxation moment. Maybe I’ve only tried too-heavy versions or maybe my claustrophobia isn’t cut out for weighted blankets at all. Either way, I’ve never really jumped at the chance to own one.

When AAPI-founded brand Luna reached out about testing their Adult Cotton Weighted Blanket, though, I was intrigued. The company actually allows you to choose between 10, 12, 15, 20, 25, or 30-pound increments among their styles, even offering a convenient chart for specific recommendations (they advise sticking with around 8 to 10 percent of your total body weight, FYI). These come in a handful of sizes — full, queen, and a two-person-friendly-king — so your order almost feels like a customized blanket, designed just for you and your bed.

On top of that, what really sold me? Luna’s wide assortment of colors and patterns. My other qualm with weighted blankets is that they don’t always look the most, ahem, stylish, and they’re so bulky that you’re basically forced to leave them out on your bed or sofa 24/7 (unless you have enough closet storage, that is). But the brand’s striped grey and white print immediately caught my eye as a classic, display-worthy staple, so I decided to try it out in the 60″ by 80″ queen size with a 15-pound weight.

While it’s been too hot in New York to sleep with this just yet, I’ve been pleasantly surprised when curling up with the blanket on my couch thus far. Even though, based on Luna’s guidelines, I’d technically probably be better suited for the 10-pound design, it still feels like one big firm-but-gentle hug, minus the smothering sensation I’ve experienced with past weighted blankets. And as someone who enjoys watching a lot of scary movies solo (don’t @ me), it’s almost like having a built-in cuddle companion. I love the quilted cotton outer layer, too, which is equal parts soft and breathable.

This weighted blanket’s also way thinner than I expected, a major plus for storage and transportation purposes — not to mention sleeping or lounging with it overall, of course. Looks-wise, I’d deem it pretty enough to function like a throw, with permanent drape-over-the-couch potential, but my order included a convenient plastic case, as well. That means I can easily put the blanket away under my bed or on a closet shelf, where I know it’s safe from dust or dirt build-up. Bonus perk, though, it’s washer- and dryer-safe.

Prices for Luna’s Adult Weighted Blanket vary by size and desired heaviness, but my queen, 15-pound style cost $89.99 from Amazon, which feels fairly reasonable, comparatively. And I’m partial to my striped print, but the brand carries a few equally alluring solid colors, as well as a fun tie-dye design. Don’t just take my word for it, either: Its 8,800+ 5-star Amazon reviews speak volumes. Consider this top-rated find the perfect treat-yourself fall home accessory (or go-to holiday gift!), especially with chillier temps and ~spooky season~ on the horizon. I’ve only had mine for a few weeks, but I can tell it’s built to last for the long haul, and I can’t wait to eventually put it to use on my bed.
