I’ve jumped into the “grandma hobbies” trend with both feet — from sewing to crochet, even scrapbooking. When it comes to crafts, I love them all. So as you can imagine, I spend a lot of time at my local Michaels. But during my visits, I’ve learned that you don’t even have to be crafty to score at this fan-favorite store. 

While most people probably know that Michaels carries a wide range of seasonal decor, you might not know that they also have a stellar home decor selection. They even partnered with the iconic Jonathan Adler earlier this year on a robust collection of delightful (and affordable!) indoor and outdoor decor. And Adler isn’t the only designer to grace the aisles of the craft store.

I gave New Jersey-based founder and Principal Designer Shamika Lynch of Maximizing Tiny Interiors a $50 budget to shop at Michaels, and she went straight to work pointing out the pieces that can really pass for high-end. Check out Lynch’s top craft store home decor picks below.

Jonathan Adler’s collection for Michaels has been a big hit with consumers and designers alike. “This vase can do the heavy lifting for grocery store florals or stand alone as their own sculptural pieces,” Lynch says.

Lynch picked up this practical favorite, a classic wooden frame (and it's currently on sale). “I would go for a frame like this one,” she says. “Michaels has great frames.” They often run deals, too, where you can pick up a few for the price of one, so keep an eye out for those promotions.

While these vases look great in the raw wood finish, Lynch says you can also make them your own with a quick DIY. “If you're feeling crafty, a black stain with black india ink can take it to the next level and make them look higher-end in any room,” the designer explains.
