The holiday season comes around and we all have our own little traditions that we tend to stick to. From putting up your Christmas decorations on a certain date every year to setting new year’s resolutions for the year ahead, it’s the little things that make the festivities even more special.

To find out more about the top holiday traditions in the U.S., All Home Connections took to SemRush and Google to see which diverse traditions residents in each state are observing. They gathered a list of 115 different holiday traditions and found their monthly search volume via SemRush. It seems as though we are a nature of spooky season lovers, (who’s surprised? Not me) with the search term Halloween costumes coming out on top. 14 states have the term as their most searched holiday tradition, and in 2020, Americans spent $32.2 billion on creepy costumes.

In second place is putting up holiday decor, with the phrase Christmas decorations being the most popular search term in nine different states: Connecticut, Florida, Mayland, Massachusetts, Nebraska, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, and Wisconsin.

Taking the bronze medal is Thanksgiving food, searched for the most in five states across the country. Proving extremely popular in Arizona, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Virginia, chances are you’ll be in for a great meal if you’re visiting family in one of these states.

Other popular holiday traditions across the U.S. include Valentine’s Day flowers, making New Year resolutions, Easter baskets, and Mardi Gras music.
