I’m such a hot sleeper that I will kick off all of the covers in the middle of night, leaving my cold sleeper boyfriend freezing. I swear I don’t know that I’m doing it! To mitigate this situation, during the unusual 70-degree stretch, I’ve been sleeping with my own blanket, meanwhile my boyfriend has been diligently testing Naturepedic’s Down All-Season Comforter for the past two months.

He runs really cold, so he can sleep under covers in summer-worthy temperatures without breaking out in a sweat. As for me, all the down or down alternative comforters out there have caused me to break out in a sweat — even when it’s like 55 degrees in my apartment — and I’ve given them all away. This bad streak was broken when I tried Naturepedic’s comforter last month and discovered that in sub-60 degrees, I could get a comfortable sleep without waking up drenched in sweat.

This comforter is on rare sale, and you can get it for 20% off with the code BLACKFRIDAY at checkout.

What Is Naturepedic’s Down Duvet Insert Comforter?

Naturepedic, which is a favorite mattress and bedding brand among our shopping writers and editors, created a down duvet insert that is made out of premium 750-fill-power USA soft white duck down. It’s encased in a special down-proof, certified organic cotton fabric. I opted for the all-season version, because I wanted it to serve as our fall and winter comforter. It isn’t something I’d be able to sleep under in temperatures above 60 degrees (in the evenings), but my boyfriend swears by it year-round. There is also a lightweight option. The comforter comes in three sizes. You can save nearly $120 on the All-Season Full/Queen during Naturepedic’s Black Friday sale.

Why I Love Naturepedic’s Down Duvet Insert Comforter

The Naturepedic down comforter has a nice heft and weight to it. I paired it with Naturepedic’s organic percale duvet cover in Navy Blue. I chose that fabric for the cover for its cooling properties, just in case I did overheat, and was thrilled with how crisp and lightweight the fabric felt to the touch. I was dreading trying to wrestle the duvet cover onto the comforter, but it actually didn’t take me as long as I anticipated.

As for sleeping under the comforter, I was prepared to wake up feeling like I had come out from under a sauna blanket. But when I woke up after my first evening of sleeping under it (the weather was 50 degrees at night), I was perspiration-free. A miracle! This trend generally has continued in the month since I put it on our bed — though one or two nights I have woken up a bit sweaty when it was more humid in our apartment. Not nearly as bad as other comforters, though. My boyfriend compares it to a “warm cloud.” Despite the colder temperatures the past few weeks, he hasn’t begged for me to throw another blanket over it. We just sleep with a top sheet and the comforter.

I also loved that it didn’t slide off the bed or seem heavy toward the bottom end, which is another frequent problem I’ve had with comforters. It stayed on both of us all night and didn’t shift when one of us rolled over. I know that the down duvet comforter is a bit more expensive than the bedding I usually recommend, but I think it’s worth it for hot and cold sleepers alike. So if you’re going to splurge, now is the best time.
