As a lifelong hot sleeper, it goes without saying that my main priority is keeping my bedscape cool. From the cooling sheets that I love to a waterproof mattress protector that’s actually quiet, I’ve learned how to keep the night sweats away. And yes, even my mattress is breathable! However, cooling bedding only goes so far in ensuring a restful night of sleep. That’s why I’ve added the compact Windmill Fan as an effective finishing touch. (Before you ask, I don’t have — or plan to add — a ceiling fan in my bedroom.)

Windmill is our editors’ top choice for window A/Cs, but the brand has since expanded its lifestyle product offerings. In addition to the brand’s chic bamboo-covered air purifier, I had the chance to try out Windmill’s fan in its popular Butter color. I’ve been using the fan for nearly a year now, and won’t be stopping anytime soon. Even better, Windmill is currently running its biggest sale of the year, where you can score 20% off sitewide by using the code WINDMILL at checkout. Read on to find out why the Windmill Fan is my secret weapon for the coziest sleep ever.

What Is the Windmill Fan?

Believe it or not, the Windmill Fan is suitable for hot and cold weather. This all-in-one smart fan and air circulator not only cools down a room, but can help to maintain your comfortable indoor temperature. In total, the fan is equipped with an auto-dimming display and five fan settings: The Whisper, Low, and Medium speeds assist with cooling while High and Boost tap into its air circulation features. Essentially, it’s ready to use throughout the year in any season. Measuring 10.71×8.03×6.81 inches, the fan is available in White, Black, Pink, Butter, and Marine. If you see a color you like, don’t wait too long to grab it since some shades tend to sell out more than others. (l learned the hard way!)

The Windmill Fan’s EasyTilt capabilities allow you to manually adjust the body of the fan back and forth to direct the airflow. Further adding to its convenience is the fact that it can be controlled from a distance with an included remote as well as the Windmill app. Within the app, you can also create automations for the fan, including (but not limited to) schedules based on specific times, the state of the device, or the sunrise and sunset. Bonus: If you have multiple Windmill products, such as a window A/C or air purifier, you can control them all from a single app!

Why I Love the Windmill Fan

My butter yellow Windmill Fan is placed on a narrow shelf that’s near my bed, but not directly beside it, and points toward the middle of my mattress. However, once I turn it on, cool air sweeps the room. The substantial span of its airflow is honestly how I quickly learned to point it away from my face while I slept, and I keep my fan on the low setting! I’ve also used the fan Medium speed (or High if I’m in a rush) to help finish setting my makeup before going out since it’s powerful enough to reach across the room. Something else I love to do is run the fan while my bedroom door is closed so the entire room cools down. That being said, it’s no surprise that I use it every single day.

Without fail, I wake up and push my bedding off of me whenever it gets too hot to stand it. To fix the problem, all I have to do is turn on the fan and let it blow for 15 minutes to half an hour, and it’s a total 180 effect. Before long, I’ll actually start to feel too cold and have to pull the blankets back up! I haven’t scheduled any automations for the fan, though I really should since I typically run it consistently from midnight to 5 a.m., but the remote is always within reach. I sometimes keep it under my pillow! Plus, it only has three buttons, so I don’t even have to open my eyes to know which one I’m pressing to turn it on, up, or down.

Beyond staying cool, it’s the sound of the Windmill Fan that gives me my best sleep. I have a Hatch 2, which plays calming pink noise during my customized sleep program (on nights when I turn it on), but the fan’s low setting has a quiet breezy sound that doesn’t interfere with my rest. In the past, I never used the fan sound feature on my sleep machines, but what’s better than an actual fan — especially one as cute as this one?
