I Helped My Friend Create Bathroom Storage out of Thin Air — The Results Are Amazing
Over the last few years, I’ve become somewhat of a cleaning and organizing expert for the people in my life. Both my friends and family come to me for advice, questions, or product recommendations. Recently my best friend, Catalina, asked for some storage solutions for the bathroom in her new apartment, and I was more than happy to help. With years of experience researching (and testing!) organization and storage solutions for just about every room in a home, I knew exactly which products to recommend for her specific space.
After moving back to my hometown of Los Angeles in February, Catalina moved six minutes away from me just two months later, which has not only been fun in a “let’s meet for dinner in half an hour” sort of way but also in a “let’s go to IKEA and Target for new apartment stuff” way. Catalina’s dilemma was a common one — she had zero built-in storage to work with in her bathroom.
I first sent Catalina a few bathroom storage products I had already stumbled upon online, and after seeing them in person, she was sold. Combining my three best tips with her own stylish touches, my friend has transformed her bathroom into a serene yet functional space. The pieces that solved her bathroom dilemma can work for other bathrooms, too, especially those in need of more storage.
Use Vertical Storage
Like many apartment bathrooms, Catalina’s didn’t have a vanity, drawers, or a medicine cabinet. To create storage where there was essentially none, I recommended this over-the-toilet bamboo storage that both added warmth to her all-white bathroom and provided a hidden space for feminine products, candles, shampoo refills, and hand towels. For those without a medicine cabinet, over-the-toilet storage is also a convenient place to store medicine, toothpaste, first aid items, lotions, and smaller trinkets such as hair ties and bobby pins.
Introduce Storage Baskets
Catalina’s style leans toward an organic modern vibe, so I knew she’d love these baskets to keep on top of the over-the-toilet storage. She said it’s been perfect for storing and accessing toilet paper, due to the convenient side handles, without having the rolls so visible. If you don’t need toilet paper storage, this basket is perfect for keeping hand towels, soaps, hair products, and hair tools neatly stored.
Add a Rolling Cart
Without a bathroom cabinet or vanity, I knew Catalina would need a rolling cart of some kind to easily access her most used items. This rolling cabinet with four drawers stores her skin care products, makeup, hair tools, cotton balls, and washcloths. There is also a similar option from IKEA in three different colors that can also work for a bedroom, home office, or garage workshop.
