This Dreamy Mattress Is One of the Few That Doesn’t Give Me Back Pains — and I Got You an Exclusive Discount!
I have a dirty little secret. When I bought my New York City apartment 11 years ago, I inherited a Murphy bed with a used, Queen-size mattress that I slept on up until a few months ago. Gross, right? The previous owner had been living overseas for several months before I moved in, and I figured the mattress was fine for me to sleep on just for a few nights, until I bought a replacement. But a few nights turned into a decade, mainly because this stranger’s mattress was so comfortable and one of the very few that didn’t give me back pains. So when I was offered the opportunity to try the Saatva Classic Mattress recently, you can understand why I was reluctant to make the change. I already had the Goldilocks of mattresses, and I didn’t want to take a chance on something that would leave me sore every morning. Ultimately, I took the plunge and, after months of sleeping on the Saatva, I’m so glad I made the switch.
I think my back problems stem from years of sleeping on bad beds once I started living on my own. Sofa beds, cheap mattresses, and sleeper sofas all did a number on my spine over time. But the Saatva Classic definitely does not fall into the category of cheap mattresses. It’s made up of a base coil unit that prevents sagging over time; a pocketed coil layer that relieves pressure points and responds to your body movements; a memory foam layer that provides back support (yay!), and a breathable pillow top layer that keeps you cool while you sleep. The mattress is available in three firmness levels: plush soft, luxury firm, and firm. I opted for luxury firm, which is basically medium firm, and the firmness level I’ve found to be most beneficial for my back. For the height, I chose 11.5 inches vs. 14.5 inches, mainly so there’d be enough room for me to close the doors on the Murphy bed cabinet when the mattress was turned up.
On the day my mattress was due to arrive, I started worrying that maybe I was making a mistake. Why give up the inherited mattress when it was so perfect? Before I knew it, the white-glove delivery men were setting up my Saatva and hauling off my hand-me-down. Whatever separation anxiety I was feeling started to go away once I sat down on the mattress. It felt so much cushier than my previous mattress, thanks to the plush 3-inch pillow top. The Saatva wasn’t as firm — I actually sank into it a little — but I actually liked the softness. When I went to bed that night, the pillow top made the entire bed feel super luxurious. My back was both comfortable and supported as I slept, and I woke up the next morning with no soreness, aches, or pains — a huge victory, since any time I’d slept on anything other than the inherited mattress, I’d regret it the next day.
I’ve been sleeping on the Saatva Classic for about a year now, and I couldn’t be happier. It definitely feels like a major upgrade from my old mattress — dare I say fancier — and it keeps me comfortable whether I’m sleeping on my side, back, or stomach. And despite a summer of some seriously brutal heatwaves, the breathable top layer has managed to help me stay cool. If my last mattress was a Goldilocks, this one’s a Sleeping Beauty — it’s gorgeously crafted, comfortable, and gives me a good night’s rest. I don’t know if I’ll stay in my current apartment forever, but I do know this: If I do move, I’m not leaving the Saatva Classic behind for the next tenant; it’s coming with me.
