11 Retailers Like Pottery Barn (Including Some for an IKEA Budget)
Although much of Pottery Barn’s furniture is quite pared-back, you can still tell the pieces are expensive and well-made simply by looking at them. In other words, subtle sophistication is the brand’s specialty, and if you happen to recognize one of their sofas or bed frames in someone’s home, it’s always a flex. This is a big reason why we visited our local Pottery Barn showroom multiple times for our Personal Shopper series; we weren’t surprised to see that the coverage resonated heavily with our readers. Despite the brand’s wide selection, we understand that you can never have too much of a good thing. That’s why we’ve gone ahead and compiled a list of retailers whose furniture carries a similarly elegant vibe. We already did the same with West Elm, and we’re excited to continue this series with yet another one of our favorite stores. If you’re into classic yet contemporary, high-quality pieces that’ll stand the test of time, keep reading.
Maiden Home
Pottery Barn’s furniture is widely loved for its organic, handcrafted aesthetic, and Maiden Home offers the same appeal. All materials are carefully selected, ensuring beauty and durability for years to come. We were immediately drawn to this accent chair, which is upholstered in a low-maintenance performance bouclé. It’ll add a sense of coastal charm to your living room. What’s more, the chair’s seat conceals a system of hand-tied springs that’ll keep you (or your guest) comfortable for hours on end.
Joss & Main
Pottery Barn diehards are also no doubt familiar with the brand’s signature seadrift wood. Many of their pieces, especially their dining furniture, are made of light-wash material. You can find similar dining sets at Joss & Main. Case in point: the Beechgrove five-piece dining set, which comes with a rectangular table and four matching chairs. Shoppers say the set looks exactly as pictured IRL and describe it as elegant and having a nice, natural finish. While you’re at it, be sure to also check out Joss & Main’s living and bedroom furniture for more classy pieces.
Cozey
We’re huge fans of Pottery Barn’s simple, platform-based sofas, and the brand Cozey carries models that fit the same aesthetic. The Ciello is one of their OG models, and it’s available in two seat depths. If you live in a small space, you can opt for the two-seater. For the full version, go with the three-seater model pictured above. Even better still, this sofa boasts washable covers and a modular design. This means you can add an ottoman or an extra seat module at any point, or even turn your sofa into a sectional should you move into a larger place!
Walmart
Those looking for budget-friendly alternatives will be happy to learn that Walmart carries a lot of hidden gems that look quite similar to those from Pottery Barn. Take this rustic end table, for example. It’s practically indistinguishable from PB’s reclaimed wood end table, and it’s nearly $600 cheaper! On the hunt for a new rug? Walmart also has vintage-inspired floor decor that’s reminiscent of Pottery Barn’s. Even this floor lamp, which retails for just $75 at Walmart, is a solid alternative to this model, which sells for more than double that price on Pottery Barn’s site. In short, you don’t have to spend hundreds to achieve a chic and contemporary interior.
House of Leon
Natural materials are another signature of Pottery Barn furniture. You’ll frequently come across pieces made from wood, cane, and marble on their site. The retailer shares that quality with House of Leon, the brand behind this stunning marble coffee table. The table is quite simple in terms of silhouette, its unique chipped perimeter serving as the focal point. (The edges are buffed out and therefore safe for families.) And, because each table is not factory-made, each one is truly one of a kind. Additionally, House of Leon was founded in California, and it clearly shares that cool, coastal sensibility with Pottery Barn.
Interior Define
Sofas aren’t the only furniture category with cushy platform bases at Pottery Barn. The retailer also carries a number of upholstered bed models with tall platforms, and we were happy to find that Interior Define is also a purveyor of this silhouette. The Graham bed stuns with its performance chenille upholstery and inward-curving headboard edges. The latter detail creates an increased sense of coziness, which is perfect for reading in bed. Oh, and did we mention you can add storage in the form of four base drawers? As far as fashionable and functional beds go, this is as good as it gets.
Amazon
Everyone needs a slim floor lamp in their living room for some warm ambient lighting. This pick from Amazon is perfect for those into the metallic look, and at just over $100, it won’t break the bank. For comparison, Pottery Barn has a similar find for $85 more. Of course, Amazon is also a go-to destination for affordable furniture — and by affordable, we definitely don’t mean cheap-looking. Check out this $120 rattan dresser, for instance. It’s so chic, and Pottery Barn has a nightstand that looks not too far off, albeit for $999. (The nightstand and dresser are also similar dimensions despite being labeled as different furniture categories.) We also found this beautiful C-shaped side table, which is currently on sale for $75 on Amazon and comparable to this one from PB.
Banana Republic Home
Banana Republic’s home section is still relatively new, but it goes without saying that they’ve already nailed the clean, upscale look with their offerings. This bench stuns with its mixed materials. Specifically, you get a light oak base (hello, seadrift) and a buffalo leather seat of the same color. The piece will add a warm touch to your entryway, dining room, or the foot of your bed and create extra seating without taking up too much space. We highly recommend taking a look at Banana Republic’s other artful pieces, including their beds and living room seating.
Sundays
Another oak must-have, this six-drawer dresser from Sundays will hold your entire seasonal wardrobe — and then some. Its lack of hardware is reminiscent of many such pieces from PB, making this pick easy to style with a variety of other furniture and decor. Of course, Sundays carries much more than just practical storage pieces. Its beds, sofas, and accent chairs are also great for both small and large spaces, and they predominantly come in neutral colors, much like Pottery Barn’s products.
One Kings Lane
One Kings Lane has a lot of beautifully upholstered, intricately patterned furniture that harkens back to previous time periods. But you’d be remiss to skip out on their more laidback furniture, like the stain-resistant Valleta sectional. It’s a chaise sectional, so you might even be able to squeeze it into a one- or two-bedroom apartment. The sofa is made from high-quality materials, such as pine, linen, and cotton, and its reversible cushions and S-spring seat construction ensure long-lasting comfort. The matching accent and roll pillows are an added bonus.
Levity
Our editors have tested a few pieces from Levity and can therefore vouch for the brand’s easy-to-assemble, practically indestructible furniture. Although Levity specifically sells Scandinavian-inspired silhouettes, their products are clean and neutral enough to match a range of interior styles, from boho to minimalist to mid-century. This counter stool, for example, will fit right in with your Pottery Barn pieces and prove incredibly easy to care for. It boasts a removable and washable cushion cover, not to mention two different height options. It’s also available in either a walnut or white oak frame.
