No matter if I’m in an apartment or a house, I somehow always end up having the warmest room in my home. While a room that traps heat is bearable during the cold season, the majority of the year is a pain to endure. I’m a hot sleeper, so my biggest objective at night is to sleep cool, comfortably, and sweat-free. Oh, and did I mention that I don’t have a ceiling fan? That means I have to rely on my bedroom linens and accessories to create my perfect atmosphere.

My bedroom setup includes a breathable mattress protector, an ultrasmooth mulberry silk pillowcase, and bamboo sheets. And there’s hardly a night when I don’t turn on the compact yet powerful Windmill Fan I keep on a bedside table. Throughout the year, I cycle through a handful of comforters. However, my all-time favorite (especially for the winter) is Sunday Citizen’s Snug Comforter. So when I found out that the brand offers a Snug Cooling Comforter, I had to try it out for myself.

What Is the Snug Cooling Comforter?

Featuring cozy cloudlike fabric, the Snug Cooling Comforter incorporates a variety of breathable and temperature-regulating features to give sleepers a relaxing night, regardless of the heat. The comforter’s underside is made with viscose from bamboo, a naturally hypoallergenic material that’s ultrasmooth, and it’s filled with polyester made from recycled bottles. What sets this cooling comforter apart from its predecessor is its “Tones of Cool” technology that draws in heat and releases it, which helps to prevent you from overheating in the middle of the night. (No sleep interruptions here!)

Like other Snug comforters, the Snug Cooling Comforter is an all-in-one piece that’s made to replace a duvet, duvet cover, and top sheet. It’s also machine washable, available in three colors, and comes in Full/Queen and King/California King sizes. Even better, it ships for free!

Why I Love the Snug Cooling Comforter

I’ve tested enough cooling sheets and comforters to know that they come in a wide range of styles, and can differ in everything from fabric to cooling properties. The Snug Cooling Comforter is incredibly similar to the best-selling Snug Comforter, right down to the bamboo viscose underside. However, the cooling comforter was made to absorb and release heat, which the standard Snug Comforter doesn’t do. I usually retire my Snug Comforter for summer, but with the cooling version, I could sleep comfortably even during the hot summer nights in Louisiana.

It’s worth noting that the Snug Cooling Comforter isn’t always cool to the touch, which might be surprising if that’s what you expect for cooling bedding — but it’s not a bad thing! After all, what’s most important is that it’s effective. The comforter is soft and fluffy on the top and smooth on the bottom, and night after night, with temperatures upwards of 80 degrees, I didn’t experience any night sweats. Even if there were moments when I felt warm in my room (remember, my bedroom holds the most heat in the house even with the A/C blasting), I was never uncomfortable in my bed under the covers.

Now, I alternate between the Snug Cooling Comforter in the warm seasons and my standard Snug Comforter in the cool months. I love that I essentially get to keep my favorite bedspread in rotation all year round without sacrificing comfort. That’s not a bad trade-off, if you ask me!
