The Chic Non-Slip Rug I Wish I Bought Years Ago for My Kitchen (And It’s Easy to Clean!)
I can’t say enough how much I love unexpected decor. That includes towels as wall art, air purifiers with decorative paneling, and even colorful lockers that are just as much focal pieces as they are storage solutions. When it comes to my rugs at home, the more colorful and unique, the better. I’ve had a tie-dye shag rug in my office, a tropical avian rug in my dining room, and even a cute and simple strawberry mat at my front door. So, when I needed to suddenly replace a leather-and-rope kitchen rug that my dog lovingly destroyed, I knew I didn’t want to go basic. In fact, the floor went uncovered for a while because I couldn’t decide on what I wanted from size to style to color. However, when I saw that editor-favorite brand Verloop had introduced mini rugs into their collection, I thought it was worth a try. I picked out the Stripe Mini Rug for my space, and couldn’t have been more pleased with the results.
Like many of Verloop’s offerings, the Stripe Mini Rug is dynamically colorful and well-constructed. It’s thicker than I expected it to be, especially when compared to my planter sleeves which have some stretch to them. As part of Verloop’s Repurposed Collection, both of the brand’s mini rugs (Stripe and Color Story) are made from deadstock yarn in alignment with their mission to reduce textile waste. The Stripe Rug is available in two colorways and measures 20” x 30”, which turned out to be a great size to go in front of my sink in the kitchen. I could also see it used in front of a refrigerator, in a bathroom, or even beside the bed as a soft place for your feet to land if you have cold, hard floors. Additionally, because the rug is so easy to wash — just machine wash cold and air dry flat — it can also be used in any entryway without worry.
One key inclusion I love is that Verloop includes a lightweight non-slip rug pad with the Stripe Rug, which you’ll definitely want to use if it’ll be in a space that gets a lot of foot traffic. The pad won’t keep the rug from moving at all, which I quickly learned after my puppy ran full speed over it, but it does significantly reduce any potential shifting. For a stronger hold, I’d suggest picking up a set of rug grippers to stick it to the floor. Overall, I’ve been really pleased with my Verloop rug as a replacement for my old kitchen rug. I thought I needed a large floor covering to make the room feel whole, but the Stripe Rug is able to complete it at only a quarter of the size. Even if you don’t have a small kitchen like me, it makes an eye-catching accent wherever you place it.
