Short of a renovation, there’s not a lot you can do to make bathrooms feel brand spankin’ new and sparkling, deep down in its bones. Your moves are limited. You can declutter the medicine cabinet, keep the room clean, or buy a new shower curtain and towels — but those are largely superficial moves that look good but don’t address the heart of darkness in your bathroom — the corners and crevices where problems start, and mold and grime linger. This is when the almighty touch-up comes into play, which costs next to nothing.

This Weekend’s Assignment: Make small improvements to two key spots in your bathroom and make it feel new again.

Refresh Your Grout: Mildew and grime combined with white grout and time. We know the outcome of that classic equation. There are a bunch of ways to make your grout fresh again, starting with a deep cleaning and scouring.

Recaulk: Older caulk starts to peel away from surfaces and —even better — show mold. A nice bead of clean caulk is a simple way to make your bathroom look brand new again.

Remember, as with all of our Weekend Projects, just do what you have the time and energy to do. And hey, if you don’t feel like grabbing a paintbrush, choose one of our other weekend projects to get done.

I’m really loving Bonbon Oiseau’s newly painted white dining room floors —not to mention all her plants. And very smart move with the baby (dog) gate!
