Buying a housewarming gift is sometimes easier said than done. Balancing what someone would want with something you'd actually want to give them (look, we all could appreciate a water filtration system, but…) is a task in and of itself, and it can leave you buying two bottles of wine and calling it a day. But while wine is (almost always) appreciated, sometimes it's the unexpected that can make an impact.
Which is why I always, always buy Anthropologie's Kitchen Timer to give to friends and family—it's the perfect mix of practical and actually adorable, and is a great finishing touch for bigger gifts for those especially close loved ones, while it holds up on its own for colleagues and friends of friends. (For my closest friends and family, I love mixing the timer in with other practical kitchen items, like utensils and measuring cups, or adding it to a mix of pantry items I know they'll use. It adds a little something special in the midst of practicality.)
A traditional kitchen item, it's the one thing that many people wouldn't think to buy, but when they have one? They end up using it every single day. (And I do too. Yes, I obviously bought one for myself.) Truly old-school meets new, it doesn't require a battery and features a magnet to stick on a fridge or oven range with no problems, and it comes in two colors—blue and copper—to pop in every type of decor.
In general, don't sleep on Anthropologie's home department—it's a fun mix of cute mugs, dishes, aprons, and more; and all for (surprisingly) affordable prices. I love waiting for clearance on all the glassware, because you can grab some great pieces for cheap. But the timer? It's pretty much the perfect gift—add-on or not.
