The Smart Design Detail That Makes Christina Hendricks’ Makeup Corner Feel Larger
Actress Christina Hendricks loves to show off her eclectic home on social media, frequently sharing snaps of her Los Angeles abode with her 1.1 million followers on Instagram. The “Mad Men” and “Good Girls” star recently gave fans a glimpse of her eye-catching makeup corner that features a bold design that’s similar to other parts of the home.
The corner features a monochrome color palette. On the walls, black and white striped wallpaper makes a bold statement, adding depth and texture to the room. Thin gold lines complete the look, complementing other jewel tones that are dotted throughout the space for a luxurious finish. And while the wallpaper certainly makes a design statement, it also serves a function: it makes the room feel bigger.
“Vertical stripes tend to create the illusion of space — they make ceilings look higher as they lift the gaze upward and make small rooms appear a lot larger,” Jo Horbury, Head of Design at Building Interiors, told Apartment Therapy. “Whilst vertical stripes of any width will make a room appear larger, narrower stripes especially will elevate a room, create a high-ceilinged feel, and inject a sense of understated elegance and sophistication.”
Making a great place for selfies as proved by Hendricks herself, the patterned mirror is an important statement piece in the space, while the vintage-looking dresser fits in perfectly. The entire corner has a vintage-meets-gothic vibe, a design style that is frequently seen throughout the rest of Hendrick’s home — she even tagged her doll pottery with the hashtag #GothPottery.
Showcasing her home even further, Hendricks was featured in a recent issue of the Property Brothers’ Drew + Jonathan Reveal Magazine, sharing her style secrets and inspiration behind her playful home.
“Thank you @revealmag for this beautiful story on my home with my Sassy cockapoos in every shot!!” she wrote in an Instagram caption that showed off a preview of the magazine spread which featured her maximalist living room, bold bathroom, lush patio, and more.
There’s no doubt that Hendricks’ spaces are filled to the brim with design inspo, but it’s always great when you can find a nugget that has functionality to it, too. Vertical striped wallpaper, here you come!
