11 Times IKEA Storage Totally Shocked Us

You may think you know what IKEA storage looks like — but it turns out, IKEA's cabinets, shelves, and vanities are as versatile as all their other endlessly hackable offerings. Here are eleven different projects where IKEA cabinets got dressed up a little, emulating the look of high-end styles at a much more affordable price.

This sleek, stylish bathroom by Erin Williamson features showstopping cement patterned floor tile. In a nice blend of high and low, an IKEA vanity was customized with walnut drawer fronts by Semihandmade and special matte black pulls and faucet.

Similar to SemiHandmade is Scandinavian A.S. Helsingo, which creates doors to fit IKEA wardrobes. Their room above takes it a step further by painting the cabinets the same color as the walls, which unifies everything further.

The lower cabinets in this Montreal kitchen may not look like IKEA cabinets — but they do, in fact, come from the big-box retailer. Inspired by the high-end modern kitchens from Danish brand Vipp, designer Gaeten Havart electroplated the cabinets with a matte black coating, and added oversized handles.

When making a basic BILLY bookshelf look more built in, Design 69 not only painted them gray to blend in, but also filled all the interior holes so they magically disappeared. It's now a functional focal point in a very beautiful living room.

The IKEA cabinets in this kitchen from Croma Design take on an entirely different look when paired with pulls from Rocky Mountain Hardware and a waterfall-edge solid surface countertop.

It's amazing how just a few tiny changes can transform a run-of-the-mill IKEA product into something next level. This 'faux-denza' from Morgan Satterfield is made from upper cabinets, designed for a kitchen, mounted to the wall and covered with a piece of wood. Morgan used her own leather handles from CAMP Provisions to finish it up. Morgan used her own leather handles from CAMP Provisions to finish it up. Now it looks like it totally belongs in this swanky Palm Springs-like context.

The cabinets in this kitchen, topped with plywood doors and drawer fronts from UK Shop PLYKEA, look surprisingly high end and elegant (also lead image above) —despite their humble origins.

Kate from Centsational Style added hairpin legs and brass pulls to a floating IKEA sink cabinet, for a high-dollar look at a very reasonable price.

In this photo from Bambula, wall-mounted IKEA cabinets come together to create a stylish wall unit in the living room.

Nomita from Your DIY Family created this console/TV stand that looks super high end — but actually it's just a series of IKEA kitchen cabinets, turned on their side and topped with a piece of faux marble.
