Most of us know how to describe the furnishings of an “expensive looking” space. Thanks to scrolling designer projects on social media, watching shows like Succession, and following trends like “quiet luxury,” there’s almost a bingo card’s worth of collective imagination to meet such a description.

Quick Overview

What’s So Great About Castlery Furniture?

Castlery’s investment-worthy furniture is “quiet luxury” at its finest, but at reasonable prices that won’t necessarily break the bank. And right now, be sure to shop its Fourth of July sale for discounts up to $450 off, plus up to 30 percent off sale items.

It’s neutral, of course, with fabrics that look substantial yet cozy. There’s a balance of clean lines and curves, as well as a masterful mix of natural wood and geometric art. It can also be, well, expensive.

And yet, Castlery has cultivated a following with a full range of furniture that only looks like it has high-end price tags. From its bouclé swivel chairs, to its fluted consoles, to its curved sofas — all the signs of a “I hired a designer” vibe — Castlery is redefining what “investment-worthy” furniture looks like.

What Is Castlery?

Castlery was founded by a group of Singaporean friends in 2013, which most notably includes the entrepreneur and former investment banker Declan Ee, and they intentionally wanted to fill the gap between those at the start of their furniture buying journeys and those who have become well-established. Castlery launched as a direct-to-consumer business that continues to build its furniture in China and Southeast Asia, cutting out the added costs of showrooms.

In 2019, after building success in Asia and Australia, Castlery opened stateside as an online retailer with a worldwide cast of designers. The company is known for thoughtfully-designed and well-built pieces that showcase craftsmanship, but at prices that won’t necessarily break the bank. Don’t get us wrong, though — the furniture is still expensive by anyone’s definition, but not prohibitively so when compared to other high-end furniture brands.

Its overall style leans mid-century modern, but there are also clear examples of contemporary styles and trendy shapes that can appear more timeless when surrounded by more classic forms. The best part? Because Castlery has such a wide range of pieces, you can furnish an entire space in one go.

Do You Need to Assemble Castlery Furniture?

Yes, the beautiful furniture in Castlery’s arsenal must be earned, and assembly is part of the process. Make sure you have a buddy on hand to help, as some reviewers note that the pieces were sometimes too bulky for one person, but rest assured that the work can likely be done with relative ease. Another note from reviewers, which is wise in general: Don’t disregard instructions, no matter how confident you may be in your abilities. Getting a quick lay of the land always makes assembly easier!

Does Castlery Deliver?

Castelry delivers its furniture in large, well-packaged boxes as a standard service to your front door or building entrance, with a shipping fee that’s dependent on your location. It’s possible to pay an additional fee to have your order brought into a specific room (with a limit of two flights of stairs), or you can splurge to get the white-glove service and have the furniture assembled exactly where you need it.

It’s important to note the fine print around shipping, as your order will be coming from overseas. And be sure to enter your zip code on any product page, which will have details on availability, too.

All of Castlery’s inventory is shipped through Maersk, and there is a sustainability initiative around reducing ocean freight carbon emissions in place. While you don’t need to do anything to ensure this, the pledge is baked into your order, it’s nice to know that the discussion is taking place. Maersk also has plans to be carbon neutral by 2040.

Does Castlery Have Stores?

Castlery operates entirely online, so it doesn’t have any physical store locations. You can use a room designer tool to see how a piece may look in a space, or read up on its active blog for tips on creating a designer-approved room.

Are There Any Castlery Sales Right Now?

Yes, Castlery has seasonal sales that offer substantial discounts, particularly around Cyber Week and major holidays like Memorial Day and the Fourth of July. Sign up for the mailing list to stay in-the-know about deals, or simply check in when a major holiday is happening. Currently, Castlery is running a Fourth of July sale with sitewide discounts up to $450 off. You can also snag an extra $50 off $1,500 on top of the current sale with the promo code PERK4G. The promotion ends June 23.

Is Castlery Furniture Worth it?

Yes, according to our editors, Castlery’s furniture is worth it. Senior commerce editor Ian Burke tested the Dalton Storage Bed, and writes: “The Dalton Storage Bed is a gorgeous piece of furniture that’s both comfortable and highly practical. Its sturdy construction features a thick headboard that wraps around the sides a bit — a feature I’ve come to love.”

Apartment Therapy contributor Sarah Lyon also raved about a bouclé swivel chair and stool that turned her childhood bedroom into a relaxing space for her mom to enjoy. “The chair swivels, making it easy to enjoy the view out of the bedroom’s expansive windows, and the little stool is perfect to use as either a footrest or a side table,” she says.

There is so much to choose from at Castlery, and it seems as though that variety is also met with high standards. It should be noted that returns are set at a 14-day window, which is much shorter than other direct-to-consumer furniture brands. But by the sound of these reviews, you likely don’t need to worry about it.

The Best Furniture from Castlery

Two editors on the team own the Owen sectional, and we can see why. Editorial Shopping Director Jada Wong loves that the seats are deep and plush, making it the perfect spot for napping and lounging. Beyond the good looks, Senior Commerce Editor Ian Burke is surprised at how roomy the sectional feels without overwhelming his living room. There's also the option to choose the orientation of the chaise so you can make sure the layout fits your space.

Wong also has the Harper sideboard in her kitchen and loves the balance of aesthetic and functionality, two things in which Castlery's designs excel. The long oval shape is perfect for the high-traffic room (there are no sharp corners to bump into), and the tamboured doors slide easily to hide extra serveware, linens, and party supplies like cake toppers and candles.

Made from a frame of laminated veneer lumber and plywood, and set on metal legs, this sectional is sure to be a comfortable showstopper in a living space — particularly if you go with the oh-so-cozy forest green. “This [is] my favorite recent purchase when furnishing my new apartment,” one reviewer said. “It's hard to find such a great color in green for a living room sectional. I enjoy that the couch is comfy while also still quite supportive.”

The Dalton bed comes standard and with storage, but no matter which one you choose, you’ll have a stylish and enveloping anchor for your room. “I'm an interior designer and purchased this bed for my own master bedroom,” one reviewer wrote. “I wanted a solid bed base (straight timber slats) and a generous, elegant bedhead. This bed has far exceeded my expectations.” If you choose the storage option, be prepared for major innovation. According to Burke’s review, “The drawers aren’t actually attached to the bed, which sounds strange, but it’s actually ingenious. They sit on rollers directly on your floor, and they magnetically latch into place when they’re pushed in. That means much less hassle if you have to move or disassemble the bed later on.”

A jute area rug will stand up to everyday wear, and this print can add a pop to a neutral palette. This is handmade from 100% jute, so you can rest assured it’ll last. “The rug quality is very good and easy to clean, [and it’s a] good color to match my home,” another reviewer said.

This dining table, which is made from solid acacia wood, will be the place where many dinner memories are made — from large parties to small gatherings. “The table was securely packed and the assembly was super easy,” said a reviewer. “I’m so impressed with the quality of this table. I’ve been looking for a long time for an extendable table that [fits] the style of my room and I couldn’t be happier.”
