The Home Library of Your Dreams Is Closer Than You Think

Having a separate space for a library is a dream of book nerds everywhere. I know this because I count myself as the biggest book nerd of all. Unfortunately, many of us don't have the luxury of devoting an entire room to our favorite volumes. For those book lovers pressed for space, allow me to recommend this unusual solution: turning your bedroom into a library.

Honestly, what could be better than sleeping surrounded by books? And the good news is that, even in a small space, there's a way to make this work.

Above: In this room from Inside Closet, a little nook is the perfect spot for some wall-mounted shelves. If books turned spine-in sets off a rage in you, look away.

This room from Design*Sponge has a bedroom library solution suitable for even the smallest of rooms: using a set of bookcases as a headboard. Of course, the books behind the bed itself won't be super accessible, but use your discretion and don't put your favorite volumes there.

In this room spotted on My Domaine, wall-mounted shelves surrounding a window provide a great spot for a collection of volumes.

The great thing about wall-mounted shelves is that you can use them to make space for extra books even when floor space isn't available. In this room from Domino magazine, via Stockholm Vitt, wall-mounted shelves offer a whole library without taking up any square footage at all (just make sure you have a step ladder).

I enjoy the aesthetics of a vertical bookcase, but they can also make a nice multi-purpose nightstand, as seen here in Elle Decoration.

This space from Domino is a studio apartment, but it could also be instructive in creating a small bedroom, particularly one with lots of books. Here, two bookcases flanking the bed help to create a cozy feel, while also adding lots of storage.

A few low shelves, mounted to the wall, can provide a spot for quite a few books, while maintaining a minimalist feel. In this space by Charlotte Minty Interior Design, the top shelf provides a handy spot for tchotchkes.

Is there a desk in your bedroom? As this photo from Elle proves, the knee space under said desk can be an unexpected book or magazine storage spot.

I love how the shelves lining the alcove in this bedroom from Inside Out create a tiny library — proof that it's possible to squeeze a few shelves into even the smallest of spaces.
