If you think you can't fit a workspace into your tiny apartment, think again. The diminutive proportions and clever designs of these 14 desks makes them perfect for small spaces. No matter how limited the space available, you're sure to find something here that's a perfect fit.
Above: Mid-century mini desk, 36"w x 20"d, $399 from West Elm.
This is the Ekby Alex shelf with drawer, used as a desk. It's 47 inches wide and only 11 inches deep, but perfect for a laptop. The shelf and the accompanying brackets are $54.99 from IKEA. Image from Maria Harmuth.
A desktop (available for $120 from Ambiente Direct) can be incorporated into the classic String shelving system. It's only 31 inches wide and 28 inches deep, and the fact that it's wall-mounted opens up space for other things underneath and gives it a pleasing visual lightness. Image from Weekday Carnival.
This is the modern wall desk from West Elm ($879), seen in an image from Bright Bazaar. At 48" wide and 20" deep, it's not quite as small as some of our other picks, but the shelves mean that you can store things above your desk, even if you're not able to mount shelves to the wall.
For a smaller desk option with shelves above, there's the Stairway white 72.5" desk, $349 from CB2. It's only 30 inches wide, and 20 inches deep. It also comes in a 96" high version with two extra shelves. (Unlike the West Elm option, it does need to be mounted to the wall.)
This desk from The Container Store is such a smart little multitasker — the bottom part pulls out to provide an extra work surface, so you can pile up a bunch of paper (I know you do this) on the top part and still have space to work. It measures 34 inches wide by 22 inches deep.
The slim little Farringdon laptop desk is $299 from The Container Store. It's 48 inches wide but only 17 inches deep, and has a drawer and also a pullout work surface.
Sure, this is from a kids' store, but it's also a great option for those who want a wall-mounted desk with storage above. Three tiers wall desk (33.5"w x 20"d), $299 from Land of Nod.
For those looking for a very design-forward option there's this wall-leaning Milk mini table (47”w x W18.5”d), $1,600 from Leibal.
Standing desks, allegedly, are better for your health, and there's the additional benefit of not needing to make space for a chair. Knotten standing desk (20.5"w x 17"d), $149 from IKEA.
Arguably the most attractive of the wall-mounted options is this Mid-century office shelving from West Elm. The desk ($349) is only 24 inches wide, and a mere 8 inches deep when folded (15 when unfolded).
Industrial storage mini desk (30"w x 18"d), $319 from West Elm.
The Besta Burs desk is almost four feet wide but a mere 16 inches deep, making it a great option for placing in a narrow spot or behind a sofa. $199 from IKEA.
The Parsons mini desk (30"w x 24"d) is $299 from West Elm.
