I can’t wait to tell you about my new favorite bathroom accessory, but as I sit here typing, I’m already blushing. Why, you ask? Because it’s related to, er, toilet habits, and I was raised in a house where we did not talk about that stuff. However, with age comes personal growth, and that’s why I decided that it was time to put on (pull down?) my big-girl pants and tell you why I highly recommend the Tushy Ottoman to anyone who I’m not too embarrassed to tell about it.

The Tushy Ottoman is a stool (hardy har) that you place at the base of the toilet to elevate your feet while you scroll TikTok, among other activities. As opposed to a sitting position, a squatting pose is actually much more conducive to healthy egestion. If you’re thinking that the Tushy Ottoman seems similar to the Squatty Potty, well, you’re right. It’s designed for the same purpose: to position your body to help you… go… with ease. With your feet raised several inches, your body is set for up optimal number twos.

I bought the Squatty Potty years ago after housesitting for a friend who had one in every bathroom, and let’s just say it didn’t take me long to become a fan. But while my newest find scored big when it came to functionality, it earned zero style points. It seemed like it belonged in the step stool aisle of a big-box warehouse store: utilitarian-looking plastic, hard corners, unnecessarily bulky. Tushy’s version, however, is a different story. It works just as well, but it is sleek, stylish, and blends seamlessly into the look of my bathroom instead of acting as an eyesore that immediately brings pooping to mind. And you don’t have to take my word for it — according to The New York Times, “If the MoMA Design Store sold a toilet stool, we think it would be the Tushy Ottoman.”

This stylish bathroom accessory features a rounded look that is a much better complement to the curved shape of a toilet. A large indent on the back of the ottoman fits around the base of the toilet, which gives it a compact profile. The detachable legs are available in two colors: white and bamboo. I chose bamboo because it looks so elegant against the white body, but if you’d rather camouflage the ottoman a bit more, white could be your better bet. Both colors come in heights of 9″ (original) or 7.5″ (relaxed).

It only took a week of using the Tushy Ottoman before I kicked my old one to the curb. Tushy’s is the perfect combination of top-notch functionality and subtle style. If you’re looking to upgrade your bathroom style (and your bowel movements… cringe), order this editor fave ASAP.
