Being a child of the late 70s, my biggest influences were cartoons and candy which have somehow shaped my personal design approach. I’m an avid collector of nostalgic pop culture like lunch boxes, glass soda bottles, Pez and vintage finds like globes and Carnival Chalkware.

More specifically, a boxy blank canvas with impressively high ceilings, a wide open floorplan, copious natural light, wood floors, and exposed beams.  It had all the makings of an enviable modernist dream home.

So to save money, I gave my friend who’s a budding freelance architect the project and an impossible task—to give me a lot of storage on the cheap while making the room look bigger.And he did it!

Name: Kirsty (Lovely Pigeon) and Pete (Uniform) Thomas Location: Cellardyke, Fife, Scotland Size: Three story house with attached netloft containing kitchen and studio; 1800+ sq feet Years lived in: 6 years; Owned Kirsty and Pete Thomas live and breathe design, so it’s no surprise that all that creativity leaks out around their home from time to time. This old house has serious personality.

Name: Black Eye Coffee Shop  Location: Highland Neighborhood, Denver, Colorado  Size: 1,200 square feet Years Occupied: 1.5 years, open for 8 months A year and a half ago Ali and Dustin ventured into a dilapidated storefront on Navajo street. It was a space they had walked past a number of times, but that night something was different. The “Coffee Shop Coming Soon” sign that had graced its facade for months had come down, and they were intrigued.

They found a new home with a great floor plan with a logical flow, located on a quiet tree lined street.
