It’s an area filled with beautiful, historic homes, and Scott and Jerry’s home is no exception.

Name: Branson Location: Portland, Oregon Room Size: 130 square feet When Branson’s mom, Jill, started thinking about what kind of nursery to create for her baby-to-be, she immediately knew that she wanted to use the 2013 Pantone Color Of The Year, emerald green, for her 2013 baby. She was also excited to create a fun room full of adventure—and thus, the nautical-travel theme was born.

Name: CEO Simone Vingerhoets-Ziesmann of Wilkhahn, German Furniture Manufacturer Location: Chicago, Illinois Size: 2,225 square feet Years lived in: 9 months Wilkhahn is a well-known and respected office furniture design and manufacturing firm with roots in Germany but with a global presence and offices around the world.

Name: Sarah Location: Ukrainian Village — Chicago, Illinois My apartment is an 800 square foot coach house in Ukranian Village. It took a lot of scrubbing and painting to bring it up to my standards, but was worth it for the location. I went from a studio to a 1.5 bedroom and was able to furnish it pretty quickly with the help of my mom, auctions and Craigslist. The living room is the best looking, but I spend most of my time in the large kitchen and cozy bedroom.

If you’re Marie Kondo, author of the wildly successful, world-wide best seller The Life‑Changing Magic of Tidying Up, it feels joyful. It feels restful. It feels like the kind of place where you can truly be the person you are becoming now, not the person you were in the past.

We show peeks of stylish homes from all over the world on Apartment Therapy (with our great house tours), but as you know, a home extends beyond the walls you rent or own. Your home is also the walk to the neighborhood bar or boutique and the drive along tree-lined streets to pick up groceries or to a favorite restaurant. Name: Chelsie and Nate Location: Decatur, Georgia Size: 1,000 square feet Years lived in: Rented for 6 months Chelsie and Nate moved to Atlanta six months ago from Nashville. Chelsie is an Atlanta native and Nate is from Athens, so they are both happy to be closer to family and friends in their home state. It was the vintage floral numbers and mid-century charm that sold Chelsie on this home instantly — this was the first and only home she looked at, and she signed the lease right away.

Name: Harben Porter and Ryan Moses and Bowie the cat Location: San Francisco, California Size: 550 square feet Years lived in: 3 years; Rented Harben and Ryan found their apartment on Craigslist and decided to take a chance on a post that did not include any images. Luckily for them, the place looked perfectly charming and quirky on sight.

Name: Kayla and Amir Farhang and their dogs, Rusty “Pants” and Bo Jackson Location: Austin, Texas Size: 2,400 square feet Years lived in: 8 months; Owned Kayla and Amir live in Austin with their two dogs, Rusty “Pants” and Bo Jackson. To make a long story short, they basically left their long-time home in Los Angeles for Austin because they fell in love with a house, a city, and its people. Kayla is a life stylist, host, and speaker in LA, NYC, and Austin.

Name: Lynne Sutherland, kids Ava and Wyatt, cats Felix and Fiona, and dogs Charlotte and Tuesday Location: Santa Barbara, CA Size: 2,000 square feet Years lived in: 9 years; Owned Lynne’s home is oriented to the sun—in more ways than one. On the day of our visit, we found the house flooded with the most glorious mid-morning light. The energy of the household was light, too, and that’s intentional.

Name: Pierre-Etienne Pilon and his two kids Location: Ile-Perrot, Quebec Size: 3 bedrooms Years lived in: 2 years; Owned Decorator Pierre-Etienne Pilon has decorated his entire home with secondhand furniture that he has refurbished himself. He is passionate about Mid-century Scandinavian furniture, and he loves to wander around here and there in search of beautiful pieces. “It is a bit like treasure hunting,” he says.

Name: Sage Gregory and Gracie Ellison-Shortridge Location: Portland, Oregon Size: 2,331 square feet Years lived in: 1 year, rented Prior to moving into this space, Sage and Gracie were actually living in the basement below. During their time in the basement apartment, they had limited light and space so they used bright colors and decor to give the space life.

Name: Joanne O’Callaghan Location: Melbourne, Australia Size: 510 square feet Years owned: 16 years Joanne recently renovated this late-1940s Art Deco apartment in East Melbourne, Australia. The entire place is full of light and charm, but the apartment’s living and dining space, called the “blue room,” is a particular jewel: It features Art Deco cornices, a tiered mirror above the original fireplace and a large framed window.

Name: Elise and Ben Flashman and their two boys, Buster and Casper Location: Mount Washington, California Size: 1,300 square feet Years lived in: 6 years; owned Ben and Elise met in college at University of California, Santa Cruz where their spirits united between being creative artists and working at the Bargain Barn, a truly amazing second-hand, donation-based store that ranged in items of pure trash to pure gold.

Name: Jon and Nina Hans of Weekday Studio Location: Downtown Los Angeles, California Size: 800 square feet Years lived in: 2 years We first got a peek at Jon and Nina’s home in their house call. It’s a clean, simple sanctuary in a busy Downtown LA area—but it isn’t boring in the slightest. Bold contrasts add drama while design details stand out in a space without a lot in it but that has a lot going for it.

Name: Margaret Meehan and Tim Monaghan Location: Greenpoint, Brooklyn, New York Size: 650 square feet Years lived in: 8 months Margaret and Tim’s Brooklyn loft is a dream of an apartment: Although it’s only 650 square feet, its high ceilings and ample light make it seem much bigger. Their building, which in a past life was a pencil factory, has plenty of interesting details: exposed brick, concrete floors, richly texture wood ceilings.

Name: Carson, Mel and Costello the Goldendoodle (in Elsie the trailer) Location: Roving the lower 48 States Size: 120 square feet Years lived in: 5 Months They’re both from small towns. Carson is a freelance writer, and Mel has years of experience in PR and marketing and is now an entrepreneur. Together, they spent eight months toiling away at renovating this tiny, 120-square-foot 1968 FAN travel trailer. They lovingly call her “Elsie.

Name: Jungwon Kim, Senior Editorial Manager at Rainforest Alliance, and kids Location: Bedford-Stuyvesant; Brooklyn, NY Size: 2,200 square feet Years lived in: 8 years; Owned Born and raised a stone’s throw from the beach in Southern California, the home of Jungwon and her family is a true reflection of their tidal roots. But having lived in Brooklyn for two decades, she’s infused her home with the creativity, eclecticism and free spirit that is iconic of its Brooklyn habitat.

Name: Tanika and Brian Hochhauser (plus George the turtle and Tansy the dog) Location: Long Island City, New York, New York Size: 650 square feet Years lived in: 6 months You might recognize Tanika and Brian from the Love Videos, where they shared the charming story of how they met (and of their spur-of-the-moment wedding). The home they share is just as charming as they are, a beautiful Long Island City aerie with breathtaking views of Manhattan, Brooklyn, and the East River.

Name: Ana Kamin, freelance photographer, writer and blogger and Patrick Kamin, software engineer Location: Haight Ashbury — San Francisco, California Size: 700 square feet Years lived in: 3.5 years rented When Patrick and I moved from Germany to San Francisco in 2012, we were lucky to find this little gem—an apartment on a rooftop of an old Victorian in Haight Ashbury—just next to Golden Gate Park.

I also like that it can hold the whole family with friends over. Typically my husband and son sit in the sofa, while my daughter dances or jumps around on the floor, and I sit with my laptop at the dining table.

Travel to this part of Mexico City without leaving your home or find inspiration and ideas to add to your own home.

Name: Katy Goodman and Todd Wisenbaker Location: Silver Lake, Los Angeles, California Size: 700 square feet Years lived in: 2 years; rented So having 15 guitars may not sound minimal, but I’m convinced indie rockers Katy Goodman and Todd Wisenbaker of the band La Sera are nailing efficient living.

Name: Mikola Accuardi and her almost 3 year old son, Valentino Location: Portland, Oregon Size: 1700 square feet Years lived in: 1 1/2 years; owned You may remember Mikola Accuardi and her adorable son, Valentino from their previous house tour with us. Since we last spoke with them over two years ago, they have purchased a gorgeous Tudor home in the shire-like Goose Hollow neighborhood of Portland.

Name: Kristen Basilo and Robby the cat Location: River West, Chicago, Illinois Size: 825 square feet Years lived in: 4 years; owned Kristen Basilo is the owner of Gather Home + Lifestyle and she says that she’s guilty of bringing her favorite items home with her. Most people’s homes would be hopelessly cluttered if they had access to so many beautiful things, but not Kristen. She’s mastered the art of living minimally.

Project by: Casey Location: Chicago, Illinois My husband and I purchased a condo in Chicago nine months ago, and we’ve slowly been working to transform every inch of the 1,200 square foot space. Determined to broaden my DIY skills and try out some new power tools. I vowed to makeover our guest room all by myself. I started by DIY’ing a wood wall treatment to create an accent behind the bed.

The first few houses they saw were supposed to give them an idea of what they could get in their budget, but when they walked into the first house of the day, they felt a connection.

The building was built in 1959 and Meg’s grandma lived in this exact unit for years. In 1978, Meg’s parents took over and began renting it out.
