Alecia is a graphic designer with a love of simple, minimal style.

The forty-degree weather, mist and visible green grass didn’t feel like Christmas in Michigan.

Name: Kenneth Close and Tracy Wilson Location: Richmond, Virginia Size: 1,700 square feet Years lived in: 2; Owned With toys, turntables, colors that pop, and vintage posters that will make you long for the days of playing Pacman at the arcade, Tracy and Kenny’s 1961 ranch is modern, playful, and kitschy in all the right places. The open floor plan allows for great views from all angles of Tracy and Kenny’s living, dining, and kitchen space, and there is certainly a lot to take in.

I arrived on her doorstep late and battling a cold, for which she insisted on sending me home with her own tried and true remedy.

Name: Melissa and Brian Crochet Location: Franklin, Tennessee Size: 3,400 square feet Years lived in: 7 years Comfortable, welcoming, and stylish, Melissa has masterfully furnished her home on a budget. Rooms that would cost others thousands cost her hundreds. How does she do it? With patience. She has, over the years, scoured the Nashville Flea Market, Goodwill, and Craigslist to make her home a unique and comfortable place to live.

This bright, lively space is a direct reflection of both of their creative backgrounds and welcoming personalities.

Name: Lisa and Adam Location: Cobble Hill; Brooklyn, New York Size: 600 square feet Years lived in: 10 years; Rented Everyone who knows Lisa knows she likes an organized and clean space! So she’s extra challenged in a small pre-war apartment with a husband and a new baby, but she makes it work, and with a very nice feel. There is something about this apartment that all people who visit this charming home love.

Name: Jen Garcia & Andrew Carnwath Location: Richmond, Virginia Size: 1,600 square feet Years lived in: 6 years; Owned Jen and Andrew, known also in the Richmond antique trading fold as The Odd Couple, have an eye for the delightfully unusual, and a knack for bringing it all together to create a space that is as curious as it is inviting. Throughout their space, sophisticated furniture and an abundance of curios combine harmoniously against a backdrop of richly colored walls.

Name: Michelle Lin Greenip Location: West Village, New York Size: 1,100 square feet Years lived in: 6 years; Rented Out the window, there’s a tumble of rooftops and a church steeple or two. Inside, a palette plucked from Ladurée, lavender fields, Hermés boxes and champagne labels, with a bit of gilding for good measure. While it’s one part atelier, including an artist’s garret of sorts, it’s the West Village, not the Left Bank.

Name: Beci Orpin, Author, Crafter, Designer, Probable Cringer of this introduction, with her talented family Raph, Tyke & Ari Location: Brunswick West, Victoria, Australia Size: 1,290 square feet Years lived in: 7 years; Owned I felt instantly at home stepping into Beci & Raph’s home. Despite being a stranger, Beci left me alone in her front “ex-studio” while she popped down the street for milk.

Location: Wicker Park; Chicago, Illinois Size: 2,000 square feet Years lived in: 7 years As a young person living in Chicago, I spent many hours rambling though Wicker Park, an area of the city that used to be synonymous with art and music. The neighborhood, home to historic flats on shady, tree-lined streets, has since been gentrified six ways from Sunday.

Name: Jeremy and Kim Kasten Location: South Pasadena, California Size: 1,300 square feet Years lived in: 2.5 years; Rented My dear friend Jeremy Kasten had his previous loft featured on Apartment Therapy almost six years ago. It was a stunningly sexy apartment in the Eastern Columbia building in Downtown Los Angeles. Two and a half years ago, with a baby on the way, he and his lovely wife Kim were forced to find something bigger for their growing family.

Name: Francina and Joe Baldi Location: Frederick, Maryland Size: 1,800 square feet Years lived in: 34 years; Owned Built around 1900, Francina and Joe Baldi’s townhouse has no doubt been through many transformations over the years. The couple have been through a few renovations themselves, but they have been careful to preserve as many of the original features of the house as they could, from the second stair in the kitchen to the thoughtfully embellished door hardware.

Name: Laura Location: Heritage Hill; Grand Rapids, Michigan Size: 768 square feet Years lived in: 8.5 years; Rented Laura lives in a 102-unit apartment complex in Heritage Hill, the historic district east of Downtown Grand Rapids. Her two-bedroom rental is filled with plants, colors and animals. Guests will discover tiny deer in a winter-themed wreath, wall-mounted heads of a rhino and giraffe, lots of pugs and even a miniature Brachiosaurus roaming among succulents.

Name: Casey Anderson Location: Highland Park; Los Angeles, California Size: 1,100 square feet Years lived in: 3 years; Owned With a penchant for unconventional activities (read: dodgeball and tap dancing), and an affinity for Spielberg-ian extraterrestrials, it goes without saying that Casey is one rad kindergarten teacher.

Name: Ben Lee and Vivian Ritchie Handler Location: Los Feliz; Los Angeles, California Size: 2,100 square feet Years lived in: Almost 2 years; Owned Ben and Viv’s ‘70s-inspired home appears to jut out above the narrow streets in the hills of the Los Feliz with confidence. From the outside, the seemingly modest, stream-lined house offers a unique view of the city, including the Griffith Observatory.

Name: Carla Location: Historic downtown; Los Angeles, California Size: 700 square feet Years lived in: 1.5 years; Rented You may think living in the heart of a major metropolitan city would be stressful, but Carla proves adapting to city life can be surprisingly serene. Living in a small, but airy studio in Downtown Los Angeles, she resides four floors above the streets and rides her bike to work, successfully avoiding the “joys” of traffic.

Name: Liz Klafeta, Founder Bangtel Location: Lakeview; Chicago, Illinois Size: 1100 square feet Years lived in: 1 When Liz moved to New York two years ago, she started renting out her revamped home in Humboldt Park on Airbnb. She couldn’t bring herself to sell since she had gut rehabbed every inch of the space. Instead, she chose to share the fruits of her blood, sweat, tears and expenditures with Chicago visitors. Name: Anabelle, Edward and Fifi Location: Mile End; Montreal, Canada Size: 900 square feet Years lived in: 1 1/2 years; Owned Upon entering Anabelle and Edward’s apartment, I immediately noticed the numerous qualities that make this space a quiet, comfortable and very “homey” home. Brick walls, hardwood floors, moldings, wood elements, architectural details, and many books make this condo a place full of charm, character and style.

Name: Camilla Molders Location: Middle Park; Melbourne, Australia Size: Small! A one-bedroom apartment Years lived in: 2 years; Rented Camilla‘s bright and colourful home in the gorgeous Melbourne suburb of Middle Park reminds me of the sun twinkling on the ocean on a bright Summer’s day.

Name: Kate Hayes DesignLocation: Size: ~Years Lived In: In a whirlwind of color and eclectic detail, Jack and Kate have managed to retain the old southern charm of their lovely home in Grant Park while keeping it fresh and modern. Kate is the head of her own design company and I was ecstatic to visit with the designer in her natural habitat. Being at Jack and Kate’s home was such a pleasure to explore as every room seemed to tell a story.

Name: Sarah Mac & Davey Riot Location: Parkdale; Toronto, Canada Size: 800 square feet Years lived in: 1.5 years; Rented Most Apartment Therapy House Tours offer a look inside the dwellings of folks who are happily settled — or newly settling — into their homes, but this tour is a bit of a swan song. By the time these photos are published, Sarah & Davey will already have left the cozy lodge-style apartment for a new place across town.

Name: Andy Isaacson Location: Brooklyn, New York Size: 700 square feet Years lived in: 2 years; Owned Walking into Andy’s open and bright apartment, you immediately feel transported to another world. Somewhere relaxing. And the more time you spend in Andy’s home, the richer the details. You’ll find an old chair from Yankee Stadium, stamps from Soviet Russia, public health posters from Laos. His unique collections fit harmoniously in a modern, comfortable space.

Name: Charlotte Starling, her husband Boris, their children Florence and Linus and rescue greyhounds, Velvet and Dash. Location: Dorset, United Kingdom Size: 4,000 square feet Years lived in: 5 years Driving into the pretty Dorset village of Frampton, I feel as if I have unwittingly gate crashed the set of a Richard Curtis movie.

Name: Sam Rosen and Linsey Burritt Location: Noble Square — Chicago, Illinois Size: 3,000 square feet Years lived in: 5 years; Rented Linsey and Sam met in 2008. In 2009, Linsey realized her new friend Sam was the best friend she ever made so she asked him to dinner on graph paper. At the end of 2014, Sam asked Linsey, on an index card (her favorite) if she would marry him. This June they wed at the Garfield Park Conservatory (they love plants).

Johnson Location: Bedford-Stuyvesant; Brooklyn, New York Size: Approximately 500 square feet Years lived in: 1.5 years; Rented With no extra space to spare, Natasha was both deliberate and maximal in organizing the decorative and essential elements of her studio apartment. In the 35+ countries that she has lived and/or worked in as a college professor and international human rights attorney, she has assembled her fair share of global keepsakes.

Name: Samantha Schulz and Christa Schulz Location: West Hollywood; Los Angeles, California Size: 2 bedroom, 1 bath Years lived in: 1 year, Rented The minute I walked into Sam and Christa’s gorgeous Spanish Deco-style apartment, I felt as though I were visiting a couple old friends. First of all, it is clear they are old friends themselves, a rare and inspiring quality to find in a mother-daughter pair.

Name: Melinda and Mark Fay Location: Eagle Rock; Los Angeles, California Size: 1,800 square feet Years lived in: 16 years; owned Melinda Fay, owner of Good Eye Gallery in Eagle Rock, has a background in therapy and finds the act of curating spaces deeply beneficial to her well-being. Her ability to refine and curate her family’s extensive collection of art is nothing short of impressive.

Name: Brooke Baker Eide Location: Ballard; Seattle, Washington Size: 800 square feet Years lived in: 1.5 years; Rented I came across a really exciting and unique House Tour adventure to bring you all on. We have two individually inspiring tours to go on by a very design savvy couple. You see they were just about to get married and move in together, and I was lucky enough to catch them at their individual homes just a few weeks before their wedding.

Name: Katy Minton and Emily Stroud Location: Nashville, Tennesee Size: 600 square feet Years lived in: 1 year When entering Katy and Emily’s home, you know their personality right away. Eclectic with a side of whimsy and a dash of smarty pants. From their “bitch please” embroidered hoop, to the taxidermied deer over the fireplace, to the poppy colors used in the home, you get an impression of two quirky interesting ladies you’re going to have fun with.

Name: Jessica Bowers – founder of West Village Life Location: West Village, NYC Size: 1 Bedroom/1 Bath Years lived in: Under 1 year; Rent Nestled on a charming street in the West Village, lives Jessica, founder and author of the popular Instagram @WestVillageLife, an account that shares the many charms of this historic neighborhood with its nearly 30K followers. It’s no surprise that her eye for detail and style extends into her personal space as well as her photography.

Name: Michelle & Jeffrey Alves de Lima-Miller (plus Amélie & Lester, our cats) Location: New York, New York Size: 650 square feet Years lived in: 2.5 years; owned. In a beautiful old building on Manhattan’s Upper West Side live Michelle, Jeffrey, and their two cats. Soon they’ll be adding a new little one to the mix, and moving to a larger and more family-friendly apartment in Brooklyn. But just a few days before their move, they welcomed me to their lovely home.

Viewers swooned over the whimsical pops of color, the high tin ceilings and the overall quality of the historically preserved elements of the home.

Name: Lauren Baker Location: Ravenswood; Chicago, Illinois Size: 927 square feet Years lived in: 10 months, owned From the moment Lauren opened the door, I knew this was going to be a fun tour. Lauren greeted me like an old friend, and her personal warmth and natural ease are evident throughout her home, as much of it is designed with one-of-a-kind pieces acquired through her relationships with local businesses and artisans.

Name: Amy Zeller and Jeremy Location: Capitol Hill; Washington, D.C. Size: 520 square feet Years lived in: 2 years; Renting To say this cool couple knows how to maximize space would be an understatement. Amy and Jeremy may very well be the champions of resourcefulness, tidiness, and organization, while maintaining a charming and minimalism about their home. Stepping into the space initially, one might mistake it for a long foyer leading to the bedroom.

Name: Danny and Joni Location: Williamsburg —Brooklyn, New York Size: 690 square feet Years lived in: 3.5 years How do you make 690 square feet feel absolutely enormous? Add tall ceilings, lots and lots of windows, and some clever DIY storage solutions. Danny and Joni have come up with plenty of creative solutions for living in an apartment that is essentially just a single room — and that only has one closet, which also houses the water heater.
