2017 brought some exciting trends in kitchens — more color, an embrace of elegant, classic styles, and even the return of wood cabinets. I've seen a lot of kitchens this year, and a lot of very nice ones, but these 17 examples stood out to me as being particularly stylish and particularly beautiful. Whether you're looking for inspiration for your next remodel, or a few lovely photos to feast your eyes on for a moment, there's something here for you.
This English kitchen (also seen at top) by deVOL has a dark, somber stylishness to it, and lots of lovely details. I particularly like the glass-front cabinets, which add a bit of a modern feel, and the mix of marble and wood countertops.
If you love color, you'll love this kitchen from deVOL, which wholeheartedly embraces one of 2017's standout colors — teal.
This kitchen from Inside Out has elegant detailing, high ceilings, and a library ladder for reaching things up high — and for adding a touch of drama.
The wooden beams and shiplap walls give this kitchen from Lark & Linen a rustic warmth, while the marble countertop adds a touch of luxury.
This kitchen from deVOL, via Novero Homes and Renovations combines a lot of things you might not expect to see together — the grooved cabinet doors, the marble countertop, the brass faucet, that salmon-y pink. Somehow, it all works.
This kitchen from Howdens is an example of the popularity of new kitchens designed to look like old kitchens. Shaker cabinets, a wood countertop, and thoughtful detailing give it a classic charm.
This kitchen seen on MyDomaine is all drama, with white marble walls paired with a black marble island, and dramatic open shelving rising from the countertop.
This kitchen is part of the studio of Camille Styles, but it's lovely enough to copy for your own home.
This kitchen from Cantilever Interiors has a beautiful simplicity, with wood accents adding warmth, and a laminate countertop (!) making a stylish and unexpected appearance.
Of all the striking kitchens here, this one, from a modestly sized Melbourne home, is arguably the most striking. It artfully combines brass countertops, dramatic marble, and a pink island for a look that's just the right amount of over the top.
In this kitchen from Elle Decoration, navy lower cabinets contrast with a range hood clad in bright white. Contrasting upper and lower cabinets continued to be popular in 2017, as well as darker colors for cabinets, like navy and hunter green.
The effect of open shelving can be chaotic, but in this kitchen from Durbendorfer (via Studio McGee), white shelves outfitted with white earthenware dishes feel almost sculptural. (That marble countertop is another highlight.)
Wood cabinets and marble countertops make for a gorgeous combination in this kitchen from This Old House.
The range hood becomes the centerpiece of this kitchen from My Domaine — part of a movement towards the range hood as an important kitchen feature, rather than a functional item to be hidden away.
The beveled subway tile, beaded trim, and brass accents give this kitchen from House of Philia a more traditional feel, but it still retains a beautiful freshness and lightness.
