No More Unused Space: How To Fit More Storage into a Small Bathroom

When it comes to small space living, making the most of all of your available space is everything. Not everyone has sprawling bathrooms with expansive storage closets, but no matter the square footage you have available, we promise, you can make it work. All you need to do is zero in on the often underused spaces that you might be overlooking. There are opportunities to maximize areas that, at first, might seem unusable, but with a little bit of imagination you’ll quickly realize they carry some potential. To get your storage expansion going, here are some ways we found that take advantage of unused space in bathrooms – take a look – some might just fit the bill for you…

If you don’t want to have your soaps and bottles cluttering up the perimeter of your sink (and who would?) then this clever sink caddy might be the solution to your storage woes. You place it right above the tap and it gives you three extra shelves.

Have you ever noticed the wall space above your bathroom door? That’s prime real estate right there! Follow IKEA‘s lead and install vintage-style shelving units right above it to store your towels and odds and ends.

If you don’t want to bother with hooks or are using the back of your door for another purpose, then a duo shower rod is a genius fix storing your wet towels. It takes up no space, but gives you double the features. You can snag yourself a proper double-rod fixture (like this highly-rated one on Amazon), or create one with a second or tension rod, as seen here from IKEA.

If you have a sink with no storage underneath, fix the problem with a shelving rack. In this example, two corner shelves (like the $40 RÅGRUND) are combined in order to create one rectangular unit. Afterwards you can store as many bins, products, or towels as you want. You can always paint it a different color to match your aesthetic if the natural wood look isn’t a good fit.

You can easily install shelves above your toilet, but what if you’re renting and can’t put holes in your walls? An easy fix for that is creating a clever bathroom ladder where you can store your hand towels, or hang baskets off its rungs to store any extra odds and ends you don’t normally have room for. If reclaimed wood isn’t your style (or you’re more B-U-Y than DIY), then you can achieve roughly the same thing with an organizer unit, like this one from Amazon. It offers actual shelving, so if you have a tiny bathroom with virtually no storage, this might be a better option for you.

You know that one foot of space right between your toilet and the wall? It might seem like not much can fit in there, but it can actually be a gold mine for storage. All you need to do is install shelves across the length of the wall, like the floating shelves spotted here on The Storage Obsessed. Even if it’s a small wall, you can probably get a shelf or two in there. Bonus points: It opens up more room for décor.

If you’re not stashing your towels on the back of your door, consider utilizing that space with some tiered baskets, like this hanging rack from Bed Bath & Beyond. You can keep your bathroom essentials, such as shampoo, makeup, and even toilet paper in there, freeing up more room in your sink cabinet and drawers.
