I’d be lying if I said towel storage was an exciting part of decorating your space. That being said, there are ways to make those comfy bath towels of yours look amazing stowed away in your space—rather than draped haphazardly over your shower rod.

Towel storage can quickly become a puzzle for those with smaller bathrooms. Without built-in storage racks or hooks and minimal to no shelving space, finding room to keep your bath sheets, hand towels, and the rest can seem impossible. But luckily, there are always solutions and hacks for those sorts of small space dilemmas. They can come in the form of over-the-door hooks and dual-purpose shower caddies, repurposing a sink’s structure, or even storing your towels in your shower.

1. Store washcloths in upright file sorters.

Turns out, your perfect towel storage inspo is sitting right in your home office! Stack these file sorters on top of a cabinet or the toilet to keep your washcloths looking neat and tidy.

2. Upgrade your bathroom with a towel warmer.

Get extra towel storage and a more luxurious bathing experience in one by bringing in a towel warmer. This option from Overstock is especially great as it has extra storage space at the top to ensure you can store all your towels in one place.

3. Hooks are your best friend.

Don’t have room for extra cabinetry or a larger vanity? Simply add some hooks above a toilet or on any open wall space to make room for extra towel storage. This bathroom design in a 200-square-foot vintage airstream proves you don’t need a ton of space to secure the storage you need.

4. Take over your vanity storage.

Worried that using your vanity for towel storage will mean there’s no room for your skin care and cosmetics? Simply install an extra shelf between your mirror and sink to store your most-used beauty products, as shown in this Paris apartment, to get the best of both worlds.

5. Consider installing pegboards.

This playroom mainstay is actually a budget-friendly, effective option for boosting your bathroom storage space. Case in point: This Singapore home utilizes pegboards to upgrade storage for everything from wash cloths to body lotion and more.

6. Try an over-the-door approach.

If tiny is an understatement when it comes to describing your bathroom, an over-the-door storage rack will save you from having to leave towels on the floor — or even worse — your bed. This over-the-door hook not only looks cool but uses space that is somewhat useless without an extension such as this rack.

7. Add Scandi-inspired knobs.

Classic towel bars pale in comparison to these Scandinavian-inspired wooden knobs in a vivid Melbourne home. They take up much less space, are easy to install on nearly any wall, and continue that minimalist vibe all the way into your bathroom.

8. Repurpose your vanity.

While you may be looking at vanities with cabinets or full coverage of the sink pipes, reconsider the benefits that come out of having an exposed one like in this Texas abode. The iron bars crossing in front create a perfect space to hold towels.

9. Set up a ladder rack.

Ladder racks can be life savers when it comes to storage in small rooms. The narrow frames they provide, like in this Cape Town home, are perfect for sliding into tight spaces and maximizing vertical space.

10. Test out in-shower storage.

Even if doors and walls are out of the question for extra towel storage, shower bars can be a sneaky, hidden option that’s perfectly exemplified by this Atlanta cottage. Having the bars at the opposite end of your shower prevents towels from getting soaked and  makes for easy access when you’re done rinsing off.

11. Rethink your towel rack.

Most bar towel racks take up horizontal space, but this cozy Dutch home shows how swapping them out for a vertical version can save on space. This also allows you to make the most of even the tiniest corners in your bathroom.

12. Find an over-the-shower towel rack.

You may not have realized that your shower caddy can serve as a towel rack, too. Find one like this that hooks over your shower door, keeping your shampoos and body scrubs on one side and a nonchalant hook for your towel on the other.

13. Work in a cabinet.

A stylish glass-paneled cabinet, like the one shown here, allows you to see which supplies you have on hand while keeping everything safe from water and steam behind a pretty set of doors.

14. Repurpose a garment rack.

Garment racks have purposes that extend far beyond your bedroom or closet. Placing one of these in a bathroom makes space for a hamper, toiletries, and supplies all in one compact space. Plus, you now have room to hang your clothing before a shower, rather than relegating your OOTD to the floor.

15. Install above-the-door shelving.

This form of storage is hardly noticeable, as it sneakily utilizes the space right above your door. This out-of-the-way storage option is perfect for tiny bathrooms, leaving room for more important things on ground level, like houseplants or that chic bamboo ladder you’ve had your eye on.

16. Hack your cabinets.

With an over-cabinet rack like this one from Bed Bath & Beyond, you can create a spot to hang hand towels without taking up any extra space. This is especially perfect for washcloths, making them easily accessible during your morning and nighttime skincare routines.

17. Use your doors

A towel rack like this Amazon find, can go on the back of your bathroom or shower door and will give you more storage space than individual hooks.

18. Or your shower curtain (yes, really!).

Take advantage of the space in front of your shower by adding a second tension rod (or buying a double curtain rod like the one above on Amazon) for hanging towels.

19. Make use of wall space.

A sleek wall rack like this one from Crate & Barrel can easily hold several bath towels (and small towels, too!), but still takes up minimal space on your wall.

20. Try adding small storage pieces.

This skinny rolling cart from Urban Outfitters can easily be used to store folded or rolled up towels anywhere in the bathroom. Plus, you can hang washcloths from the hook on the top, and add more hooks as needed.
