Ford Invented a Mattress That Will Roll Bed Hogs Back to Their Side of the Bed
How many times have you gotten into a fight with your significant other about them hogging the blankets and bed? We all know people that take up the entire bed when they are sleeping, even if there is someone else in bed with them. They spread out like a starfish, while you’re stuck sleeping on a small sliver of bed. It is uncomfortable!
Some couples do not cosleep in the same bed because they just cannot seem to share it evenly, or they have different preferences in bed softness and hardness. According to The Independent, over 30% of couples want a “sleep divorce” – meaning they do not want to sleep with their spouse. Even if you’re part of a couple that enjoys cuddling when sleeping, some partners just find a way to take up as much space as possible. If your S.O. is one of those people, you’re going to want to look into the Lane-Keeping smart bed that Ford created. It is the perfect way to put bed hogs back in their place – literally.
The Lane-Keeping bed is here to save the day for those who have been fighting bed hogs for years. The smart bed is an “infinite mattress” that has a treadmill-like surface that will actually move whoever is sleeping on it. The mattress has pressure sensors distributed inside and through its surface to track the position of the two people in the bed. If one person moves and pushes their partner toward one edge of the bed, the computer in the mattress will engage the electric motors to roll the mattress in the opposite direction, putting the couple back at the center again.
Smart bed rolls selfish sleepers back into place.
For those who share their bed with a “space invader”, precious hours can be lost simply trying to reclaim a fair share of the mattress. One solution could be Ford’s “Lane-Keeping Bed”, that applies car tech know-how to ensuring that even the most selfish bed mate stays “in lane” through the night.
Ford’s Lane-Keeping Aid actively supports the driver to safely guide the vehicle back into the correct lane by “nudging” the steering wheel in the correct direction. Just a prototype, the “Lane-Keeping Bed” is part of a series of Ford Interventions, applying automotive expertise to tackle everyday problems.
For the moment, this is just a prototype, so don’t go running to the store to try and buy one. This isn’t the first creation from Ford that brings their car technology to the home. Previously, they also invented a noise-canceling dog house. The dog house is perfect for animals that are afraid of thunderstorms and fireworks. Along with that, Ford also created a crib designed to make babies sleep by simulating the motion, light, and sounds of a car ride.
