Fashionable People: Ali’s Real-Life Style
I had the pleasure of spending time with Ali McNally while working on a House Tour of her New Orleans home, and the Toronto native is as gracious as she is gorgeous. And what a powerhouse! In addition to doing all the buying for Neon Heart—the boutique she owns with her husband Chris Scheurich—Ali is a fashion stylist, model, and frontwoman for the pop band YYZ. The girl has style for miles, so I asked her to share her take on fashion with us.

Victor’s Functional and Stylish Big Boy Room
Name: Victor ( 3) Location: Norfolk, Virginia Not too long ago I was planning a nursery. But as every parent knows, time flies by and soon enough you find yourself planning the kids college education instead. Sigh… When we moved to our current house I was about 5 months pregnant. It was such a special time with the expectation of the new addition to our family of four plus our new house.

A Mixed-Use Space for Mom & Baby “Where Creativity Thrives”
Name: Pie (10 months) Location: South Park — Charlotte, North Carolina Our juxtaposition of a room happens to be the most valuable square footage in our home: the playroom/office combo. It seems nonsensical, but for us, it’s perfect. Pie’s playroom is where we spend the biggest chunk of our days. I am a blogger, so I “work” from home. In reality blogging is more fun than work—my blog is a place where I go to feel creative and inspired.

Before & After: Kitchen Gets a Key Update
Lisa’s kitchen was in need of an update. Realizing the faux terracotta tile wasn’t working, but not wanting to commit to a full retiling of the whole space just yet, she came up with this graphic Greek solution. From Lisa: We changed out the damaged bullnose laminate bench tops for Caesarstone Frosty Carinna with square edge, and changed the overhang of the breakfast bar so that it was no longer in a walk way and can seat four now.

With some time and help from professionals, you, too, can build a replica of this 1950s puristic pivoting wall lamp.

Before & After: Third Time’s a Charm Kitchen Reno
When interior designer Melissa Miranda moved into the bachelor pad of her now-husband, builder-by-trade Ulises Serret, she wasted no time adding her own signature touch to the space. The open layout kitchen was the first project she undertook, and while the original renovation that Ulises completed prior to Melissa living in the space functioned, it wasn’t the right fit aesthetically for the couple, and so the kitchen underwent a third facelift.

5 Objects You Can Repurpose to Organize Your Closet Beautifully
Think you need an expensive bespoke solution to organize your closet? Think again. When stashed vertically in a magazine rack (or four), clutches and wallets take up virtually zero space. Plus, like the spines of magazines, you can still see and grab every single one.

Before & After: Turning a Walk-In Closet Into a Nursery
With a baby on the way, Anna and her husband had to decide how they were going to fit a little person in their San Francisco one bedroom. The walk-in closet held the solution. From Anna: We had no extra room for a baby. The only “room” we had was our walk-in closet so we decided to convert that to our nursery. Or what we so lovingly call, a “Closery.” It took us about 2 months to purge all of our stuff and find wardrobes to replace the clothes we were keeping.

Before & After: Lumberjack Kitchen Gets Farmhouse Makeover
Ashley describes her lake house’s kitchen as a “Knotty Pine Convention” fit only for lumberjacks. The ’70s yellow counters weren’t helping the cause. Here’s what it looks like now: The upper cabinets and island came out, and the walls got the beadboard treatment, customized open shelving, and a few coats of Behr Snow Fall to brighten it up.

This sad-looking border in front of my house is the first proper gardening project I ever tackled. My previous experience of growing things was limited to a couple of window boxes and some short-lived herbs in pots, so when I put a few plants in the ground last spring, I wasn’t sure how they would turn out… One year on, I have a blooming border of three different types of lavender, alliums, agapanthus (African lilies), nemesia, and daisies.
