She also knew that she didn’t want a typical boys’ room with tacky transportation themes or cartoon characters. Instead, she wanted something whimsical and colorful for her boys that they could really love and enjoy.

I had been checking out Edyta’s professional projects on her website and flickr photostream for a while and I’ve always been impressed by her amazing style.

Name: Aaron and Shannon Hase, owners of Yuppie Decor, and their spoiled Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, PepperLocation: Arlington, Virginia (Douglas Park)Size: 1450 square feet, 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms Years lived in: owned 2 years Part preppy coastal, part old boys club, and part fresh traditional, Shannon and Aaron’s home is a lighthearted interpretation of yuppie East Coast style.

Name: Kathleen White-Almanza – former set decorator, designer, and co-owner of Eccola and Maurizio Almanza – co-owner of Eccola Location: Miracle Mile — Los Angeles, California Size: 2,000 square feet Years lived in: 2½ Kathleen and Maurizio’s home is my absolute dream house. When you enter through the front door into a courtyard with an outdoor fireplace and even a scooter in the driveway, how can you not feel like you are in a rural town in Italy?

Name: A project by Sally Breer Interior Design Location: Austin, Texas Size: 1700 square feet Designer Sally Breer was tasked with taking an older South Austin bungalow and turning it into a hip, inviting and cool home for a young bachelor. The house, like a lot of older homes, had great bones (namely beautiful wood floors and a neat layout) but lacked a lot (okay any) style. Full of vintage details and lots of bright light, we love the cool, accessible look of this home she’s created.

Name: Chris ZeppieriLocation: Boston, MA   Size: 550 square foot apartment + 140 square foot bedroom/workshop We’ve often lamented, “If we only had the space for a workroom” while imagining an ideal space to work on DIY projects for both personal and professional reasons. Space (or there lackof) has always a consideration, but no longer an excuse, after seeing Chris’ workshop inside his one bedroom Boston apartment.

Name: Ingrid & SjaakLocation: Driewegen , The NetherlandsSize: 2,421 square feetYears lived in: 2½ — owned An incredibly crafty and creative gal, Ingrid has filled her historic eclectic home with lovingly-made blankets, edited furniture, and textile art. What could easily have become a visually chaotic space is actually a soothing environment with just the right amount of color, texture, and vintage details.

Name: Addison Location: Madison, WI When Addison’s fantasy-filled attic playroom was featured as part of a Green Tour on Re-Nest, it won the hearts of readers. Parents Lynn and Steve transformed the attic space–along with Addison’s bedroom and bath–when they renovated their 1860’s carriage house in Madison, WI.

Name: IkeAge: 18 monthsLocation: Austin, TXRoom Size: 180 sq ft. We’re lucky to have very spacious bedrooms for a house built in the 60s. Too bad I can’t say the same about our closets… A name like Ike commands a certain amount of presence. You picture a young man with sophisticated tastes ready to conquer the world. This room put together by his mother Erin is just that, a regal and elegant space to be a kid.

Name: Jennifer + Nello Santillana, and their greyhound LolaLocation: Belmont Heights — Long Beach, CASize:1,000 square feet — 2 bedroom + 1 bathroomYears lived in: 2 — rent Jennifer and her husband Nello have an incredible 2 bedroom flat in a lovely Spanish building in Belmont Heights, a residential area of Long Beach. They recently adopted Lola, the 3 year old Greyhound, who will kiss and lick you instead of sit, and is about 3/4 of Jennifer’s size.

Name: Chad Rogers and Starla the Chihuahua Location: Beverly Hills, California Size: 1,694 square feet — 2 Beds 2 1/2 Baths Years lived in: 1 Who watched Bravo’s “Million Dollar Listing?” I watch the show religiously and couldn’t wait to see what property Chad Rogers listed next. Now that Chad has sold millions of dollars of luxury real estate and has seen some of the best designs, he wants to share his own perspective on design and what makes a home.

Name: Lizzy JanssenLocation: Fishtown — Philadelphia, PennsylvaniaSize: One Bedroom, One BathroomYears lived in: 2.5 years, rent When visiting Lizzy’s neighborhood you never know what type of house you’re going to end up in. Fishtown is eclectic and certainly stylish and the homes range from industrial lofts in old factories to untouched rowhomes and occasionally you’ll find a complete and utter surprise like the one I was presented with when Lizzy opened the door.

Name: Time Warner’s Signature HomeLocation: NoHo, ManhattanSize: 3,000 square feet — 3 bedroom triplexYears lived in: temporary showhome In an effort to introduce their new Signature Home product in style, Time Warner took over and redecorated a triplex on Bond Street. The idea was to imagine a seriously wired home, on in which technology was seamlessly integrated into every room in the house.

Child’s name: Gavin (7 weeks)Location: Phoenixville, PA Room size: SMALL. I really don’t know the size. But it’s our smallest bedroom in the house. When Amanda entered (and won!) the Small Kids, Big Color contest, we all followed her into the woods and agreed that it was indeed awesome. The contest’s five photo limit left many of you, not to mention us, craving more of this memorable space.

Name: Warren Techentin and Mimi Techentin Location: Los Feliz, CaliforniaSize: 3600 Square FeetYears lived in: 4 years When I visit an architect’s home, I sometimes find it to be an untouchable piece of art. However, Warren and Mimi’s lovely home was very welcoming and showed signs of life and children really enjoying the space. I asked Warren how he kept the twin babies from not pulling all the books off the shelves or trying to climb the library ladder.

Rather than adhering to any strict design principles or striving for complete cohesion, she’s designed each room with elements that she and her family love regardless of whether the spaces have a strong stylistic connection to each other.

Name: Liv and Jeff McMillan Location: Long Beach, California Size: 1644 Square Feet Years lived in: 8 Months Liv and Jeff are as fun and carefree as their artistic and handmade home. While Jeff finishes his painting in his studio, Liv is in her crafts room writing for her blog and hanging out with Friendly Yeti. Early this summer there will be a new little addition to the family and it isn’t a baby yeti.

I was instantly attracted to and amused by her drawings and sketches. She has a knack for simplifying a genre of hipster cool in her prints, which she sells on Etsy.

Rather than remodeling, they used basic design aesthetics to complement the 1950’s charm: clean white walls, pops of color, and no clutter.
