4 Signs You’re the Noisy Neighbor (& What You Can Do About It)
Unless you’ve been lucky enough to live in a modern wood cabin in the woods somewhere, you’ve probably had experience with noisy neighbors before in your life. Some inconsiderate intentionally, others just oblivious, it can be a bummer when your peace is interrupted by someone else’s noise pollution. Of course you can’t expect everyone to be perfectly silent all the time (and those in cities can expect a certain level of sounds all the time).

Before & After: A Boring Family Basement Gets a Modern Makeover
This family uses their basement for watching movies, playing, and hanging out together. The space satisfied many of these functions, but with its hodgepodge of furniture, beige walls, and random floorplan, it was less than inspiring. With the help of 6th Street Design School, this bland space was transformed to one with patterned wallpaper, bright colors, ample seating, and function-specific areas. Bright, poppy, and fun, this space is much more energizing than its original incarnation.

How Living in a Tiny Apartment Made Me Happier and Saner
In Houston I had a house that was almost 1,000 square feet, with two patios and a balcony off the bedroom and a washer and dryer and more closets than I knew what to do with. And then I sold it, and got rid of almost everything I owned, and moved into a 260 square foot apartment in Manhattan, the smallest place I’ve ever lived since I lived in a college dorm. And you know what? I’m a lot happier.

Now we know you all hate it when we say you SHOULD follow this or that rule, so call this post the Guideline of Threes in your mind if you must. And that same reason can help you create an interesting home that’s not just functional, but also has visual depth and satisfaction.

The 4 Qualities of All Successful Cities
I studied architecture in college but somehow managed to avoid reading that seminal work of city planning, Jane Jacobs’ Death and Life of Great American Cities. Until I moved to NYC, and a friend challenged me to read it for an impromptu book club, and I started taking Jane with me on the subway and suddenly the secrets of this great city, and of all great cities, were laid bare before my eyes.

Jackie’s Brooklyn Bedroom
Name: Jackie Location: Brooklyn, NY About 8 months ago, I moved from Los Angeles to New York City for a new job. In Los Angeles I was accustomed to having my own space — my own studio apartment, my own car, my own private little bubble of space on the sidewalk — so New York City was a bit of a shock for me. Hannah & Kristie’s Cozy Living Room
Name: Hannah Wareham Location: Northampton, Massachusetts After four years of living in our current duplex apartment, my wife Kristie and I finally got our living room decor right for us. Before & After: How I Restored Don Draper’s Patio Set
I own Don Draper’s patio set! I didn’t know it at first. It was just a rusty little table and chairs at the Nashville Flea Market. One of the chairs was missing some scrolls and the top was gone, but I fell in love. $100 later I was loading it into my neighbor’s truck.
