Before and After: Someone Found a Way to Make a White Wall Interesting
This unassuming bit of wall doesn’t necessarily scream office built for two, but two desk chairs, eight shelves, and countless colors later, it is now a bright cheerful office suitable for two professional adults—and Rainbow Brite. Here’s a bit of background about what was needed, and what the limitations were: My boyfriend and I moved to Brooklyn last year and needed a solution to the problem of having two computers but no designated room for an office.

Florence Knoll Bassett Was a Revolutionary of American Office Spaces
The design world has lost a legend. On Friday, Florence Knoll Bassett passed away at the age of 101 in Florida. An architect, designer, and proponent of humanized modernism, she changed the way we work, and produced some of the 20th century’s most iconic furniture pieces. Born in Michigan in 1917, she was orphaned at a young age and her guardian sent her to a school designed by Eliel Saarinen in Bloomfield Hills, Illinois.

The Hallway in This Little Russian Apartment Does Pretty Much Everything
I was pretty proud of myself for turning the hallway of my tiny New York apartment into a closet. But in the hallway of a little Russian apartment that measures just 355 square feet, the architects at Studio Bazi have managed to squeeze in storage, a laundry room, and a kitchen (and it’s a kitchen you might actually want to cook in, too).

There’s a lot to love about the Bay Area. Whether you want to hit the beach, dine at world-class restaurants, or visit Fisherman’s Wharf, there’s a little something for everyone. One of the most famous attractions in San Francisco is the Golden Gate Bridge. Opened in 1937, the bridge cost $35 million in principal and $39 million in interest to construct. The bridge is about 1.7 miles in length and contains about 88,000 tons of steel.

Architects Kagan Taylor and Justin Rice of L.A. based Knowhow Shop are the creators of the striking asymmetrical structure, which they assembled in their backyard.

Before and After: This Blank Wall Becomes a Triple Threat
This blank wall in a home office is about to become its own room, thanks to just $600 and a bit of hard work. The room before is pale and pleasantly beige—and the now is anything but. Let’s pause a minute before admiring the finished product to learn a little more about this space: Before we started working on this room, it was just an office space for my husband.

Before and After: This New Home Office Only Cost $100
When it came time to renovate the orange-hued room in her 1920s Michigan home, Patti Mapes had a vision. She wanted an office that was inspiring, conducive to productivity, and, most importantly, that didn’t look like what she calls, “the inside of a cantaloupe.” Over the course of a year, this teacher transformed her spare room into a bright and organized office space with a hint of playfulness to get her through grading mountains of student essays.

5 Golden Rules for Shopping Vintage Rugs—According to the Experts
When talking vintage, a fine line surely exists between the vintage item that makes you the envy of your design-eyed friends, and the vintage that makes you question an object’s actual hygienic repercussions on your home. This Hardworking Material Looks Just as Good In Your Home as It Does on Your Tush
If I asked you to imagine something made of denim, I’m guessing you’d probably think of a pair of pants—not a couch. Over the years, this distinctive blue canvas material has become almost synonymous with blue jeans. The idea of using denim in interior decor may seem a bit strange to you—I thought so too, until I saw this striking sofa in actress Denise Vasi’s Los Angeles home and began to wonder: what if?

The Hidden Meaning in Pantone’s Color of the Year
In these unpredictable times, Pantone delivered at least one certainty we can hold onto for 2018: their much-anticipated Color of the Year. At face value, the choice might seem like merely a design one that will influence everything from throw pillows to bridesmaid dresses in the coming year. Before & After: A Whole New Look for a Home Office
Mike and Kate’s home office had slowly morphed into a home office slash dumping ground for stuff. They both work from home and felt that they had enough space for a functional office, but they just weren’t making the most of it. They called in their good friend Christina, and she helped the space do a total 180. From Christina: My friends Mike and Kate had a great space for a home office, but the dark paint and cluttered walls made the room feel tiny, especially for two people!

Best Ergonomic Stools
I recently made the switch to an adjustable standing desk in my office, and it has made a world of difference. That said, I soon realized that my regular desk chair just wasn’t going to cut it anymore. With a more active desk I needed a more active seating option — and it turns out that the medical community agrees. Active seating — specifically ergonomic stools — helps to strengthen core and back muscles, while allowing the spine to achieve its natural curve.

The Key to Color Confidence: The 60-30-10 Rule
If you are nervous or unsure about adding color into your home, consider using 60-30-10 color rule when planning your next room makeover. The 60-30-10 rule is a very easy-to-follow approach that designers often use to create well-balanced rooms using color. This concept follows the classic rule of three (which is also used in everything from marketing, to floral arrangements, to writing). In this case, three color families are used to add balance and depth to a room.

Extremely Satisfying GIFs of Hidden Home Elements

Build It on a Budget: Home Office Essentials from $20 to $299
I often end up on the sofa in a nest of throw pillows and blankets when I work from home. While comfortable, this arrangement doesn’t really provide focus to the tasks at hand. It’s why experts recommend carving out a nook where you can have an established space to buckle down and work. You don’t need much to get started, just a desk, a lamp and a chair. I built a few home office setups using secondhand and vintage finds from Marketplace.
