When my mother returned to the United States with two young children after seven years abroad, she was basically starting over.

From Too Big to Looking Built In: A Clever “Make-it-Work” Solution
Faced with a problem moving your old things into a new place, you have two options: Make it do, or do without. Charlotte thankfully chose the former when an heirloom piece of furniture didn’t quite fit in the English home her family fell in love with. The dresser and hutch in the right side of the photos above were handed down through Charlotte’s family and were nearly a perfect match, dimension-wise, for an alcove in the dining room, save for 3 or 4 inches.

With some smart color selection she was able to turn her living room into a welcoming spot.

A Scandinavian Style Meets California Vibes Beverly Hills Apartment
Name: Maia Location: Beverly Hills, California Of all the cool neighborhoods for a single 32 year old to live, Beverly Hills might not strike you as the most obvious. It’s especially curious when you consider that I grew up in “the valley” (the San Fernando one) and moving here is the equivalent of someone from Brooklyn moving to the Upper East Side—it’s just not something we do.

The Secret History of the Closet
You probably think of a closet as a little room where you hang up your clothes. But for much of its history, the closet has served a completely different purpose entirely. Come back with me, if you will, to the Middle Ages. In the Middle Ages having a bedroom was a bit of a privilege — most common folks slept either on the floor of the great hall of the manor where they lived, or in the single room that served them as kitchen, living room, dining room, and bedroom all in one.
