She’s placed plenty of importance on comfort and livability, but her design talent and personal style are what bring this space to life. Simran believes that, when designing a home, you need to consider both practicality and style.

We were down the road before that and a home-loft in the very beginning. National Forest is a design firm and creative consultancy located in Atwater Village.

Name: Erin Smith Location: Montecito Heights; Los Angeles, California Size: 760 Square Feet Years lived in: 4 Years; Owned Tucked away on a hillside in a little residential pocket just east of downtown Los Angeles is a magical little house, home to Erin Smith. For many years she’s worked in film and television as a set stylist and decorator. However she also has an entirely different business, reading tarot as a psychic healer.

Name: C.C. Boyce of Few Bits Location: Artist District; Downtown Los Angeles, California Size: 500 square feet Years lived in: 1 year; Rent Hailing from the Midwest, this LA transplant has found her love for woodworking creating incredible planters, lighting fixtures and furniture. Inspired by the artist dwellings of downtown Los Angeles, C.C. Boyce’s new wood shop exemplifies all the hard work that goes into hand craftsmanship. C.C.

Name: Dan Maddox + Alan Rauta of Cromatti Location: West Los Angeles, California Size: 2,200 square feet Years lived in: 7 years—Own Dan and Alan have been enjoying this modern and airy two-story home for about seven years. With ample room for entertaining, an indoor/outdoor shower combo and an outdoor gym, they have everything they could need under (and outside of) one roof.

Name: Kristen Pumphrey and Thomas Neuberger of P.F. Candle Co. Location:Arts District; Downtown Los Angeles, California Size: 1,700 square feet Years lived in: 1 year; Rent Kristen and Thomas, owners of P.F. Candle Co, began their operation, grass-roots-style, out of this downtown LA loft. Several employees, large shipments, and making the candles requires ample space, so they are lucky enough to have this amazing production space, plus an additional office that doubles as a showroom.

Name: Jeffrey Toraichi Eyser (of Flip This Bitch) and Joseph F. Kuntz Jr Location: Silver Lake; Los Angeles, California Size: 1,600 square feet Years lived in: Less than 1 year; Own Every time Jeff Eyser shares a new project with me, I am always surprised and relieved, because his style remains clever, fun and yet some how extremely functional. Last time I visited he and his husband Joe’s home, it was their two bedroom apartment in West Hollywood.

Name: Micha Thomas, co-founder of The Made In America Project Location: Laurel Canyon-Los Angeles, CA Years lived in: less than 1 year; rent Micha Thomas is the co-founder of the Made In America Project, a grass roots operation to bring love and attention to small domestic brands and companies. Her home in Laurel Canyon is a perfect mix of Southern California and Santa Fe style and the ultimate Bohemian retreat .

Name: Micha Thomas and Jaime Lawson of The Made In America Project Location: Laurel Canyon- Los Angeles, California Size: Converted sunroom into a home office 400 Square Feet Years lived in: barely a year, rented Merging their backgrounds in public relations and the fashion industry, Micha and Jaime have created The Made In America Project, which offers a badge of certification to 100% American-made products.

Name: Scott Diorio and his dog, Scrappy Location: Silver Lake- Los Angeles, California Size: 595 square feet Years lived in: 6 years; Rented As a native of Southern California, Scott grew up on a “steady diet” of skate and surf culture, with the beach, native elements and Latin culture in the mix. These are the aesthetics that play a huge role in the evolution of his apartment.

Name: Scott Jarrell and Kristan Cunningham, owners of Hammer + Spear Location: Downtown Arts District; Los Angeles, California Size: 3,500 square feet Years lived in: 4 years; Rented Kristan and Scott’s showroom Hammer + Spear has been a fixture of the DTLA Artist District for the past year. Their store is perfectly edited and styled with unpretentious perfection, so it’s no surprise that their home is a wonderful mixture of smart DIY solutions and collected vintage charms.

Name: Ashley Jones, Co-owner & Co-founder of DimePiece LA Location: Downtown Fashion District, Los Angeles, California Size: 1,800 square feet Years lived in: 6 months; rented The first House Tour I ever contributed to Apartment Therapy, four years ago, was Ashley’s 500 square foot studio in Miracle Mile. She had a budding new fashion company and was working hard to get her brand off the ground.

Name: Lori + John Glass Residence (designed by Tamara Honey of House Of Honey). Location: Beachwood Canyon, Los Angeles, California Size: 2,700 square feet Years lived in: 6.5 years; Owned When Lori and John hired Tamara of House of Honey to come redecorate their newborn’s nursery, the inspiration and desire to redo spread quickly throughout the entire home.

Name: Mark Cutler Design Inc. Location: West Hollywood, California Size: Two floor town house Years worked in: 12 years; Rented Mark Cutler has been designing interior and architectural spaces for years, making his name with residential designs for celebrities like Jennifer Lopez and Steve Carrell. He’s a familiar figure on shelter magazines and HGTV, and his newest venture nousDECOR.com launched earlier this month.

Name: Ax + Apple / Founder Jamie Lyn Location: Downtown; Los Angeles, California Size: 800 square feet Years worked in: 1.5 years; rented Blue velvet tufted couch, Barcelona chair, tools and trinkets, a shrine to Rihanna and a fabulous disco ball… feast your eyes on the incredible downtown Los Angeles workspace of Ax + Apple, owned by jewelry designer Jamie Lyn.

Name: Jamie Lyn, Founder of AX + APPLE (and her cat George Michael) Location: Los Feliz — Los Angeles, California Size: 600 square feet Years lived in: 1.5 years; Rented After her jewelry line AX + APPLE began to take off from Austin Texas, Jamie decided it was time to relocate to the West Coast. Lucky enough to score a gorgeous one bedroom Spanish style courtyard apartment, Jamie is enjoying Los Angeles and all its charms.

Name: Adam Lopez, Owner of vintage clothing shop October 18th Location: Echo Park, Los Angeles California Size: 650 square feet Years lived in: 1.5 years; Rented Adam is one of the Angelenos lucky enough to have landed a rent controlled bungalow in the heart of the city. Centrally located in Echo Park, his home is a cozy one bedroom with plenty of space to house his art and vintage treasures.

Name: Kelly Stewart Location: Rampart Village; Los Angeles, California Size: 400 square feet Years lived in: 1 years; rent Kelly lives in a quaint stylish studio apartment in Rampart Village, where she has indulged her interior design know how. Taking note of all she’s learned working along side various designers mixing that with her own personal aesthetic, she has created a wonderful place to call home. It’s pretty awesome what Kelly was able to accomplish in 400 square feet.

Name: Cara Underwood/Underwood Letterpress + Stephanie Collins/Flipbooth Location: In the Unique Space of Downtown Los Angeles Arts District Size: 400 Square Feet Years lived in: Opened November 2013 Every time I visit a new office space inside The Unique Space, I fall in love. The latest is the worksplace of Underwood Press + Flipbooth. I was amazed that there was an old school traditional letter press machine and much more, decorating this small office.

Name: Bridgid Coulter Location: My Design Studio/Showroom, 1419 5th Street, Santa Monica, California, 90401 Size: Entire Space: 900 square feet; Textiles Showroom: approx 450 square feet Years occupied: Since 2009 Bridgid Coulter is not just an interior designer and textile designer — she has also opened a showroom in Santa Monica offering home decor, vintage finds and design services.

Name: Jeanetta Gonzales + Brian Saldivar Location: The Unique Space, in Downtown LA Size: 180 square feet Years lived in: 2 months While poking around Instagram, I discovered Jeanetta and fell in love with her new office. To my delight, it turned out that she shared the space with Brian, inside the incredible new Unique Space in DTLA. This is my third tour of interiors inside the Unique Space, and I have to say— they are quite unique.

Name: Jonathan Paul Location: Santa Monica, California Size: 650 square feet Years lived in: 1 year; rented Jonathan, a recent California transplant, is enjoying a home that offers him the opposite of what he grew up with on the East Coast. Taking full advantage of a kitchen large enough to double as a workspace, he added incredible built-ins and is making full use of all the spacious storage. Another luxury he now enjoys is a front yard, where he is embracing his green thumb.

Name: Sonja Rasula, Founder of UNIQUE USA Location: The Unique Space // 1275 E 6th Street, LA CA 90021 //Los Angeles Arts District Size: 18,000 square feet Years lived in: I’ve been renovating the space for the past four months, and we just opened in December! Welcome to the Los Angeles Art District’s newest neighbor, The Unique Space! It’s 18,000 square feet of raw warehouse space, completely renovated and redesigned by the incomparable Sonja Rasula.

Location: Belmont Heights, Long Beach, California Size: 1,400 square feet Years lived in: 2 years; Rented Lisa and her twin daughters live in the bottom floor of a duplex owned by her twin sister Lori Lamont and Lori’s husband Monte Weiss. You may remember Lori and Monte’s home from a few weeks ago. Although Lisa’s style is very different, her home has a similar comfort and California ease.

Name: Chris Sewell + Kenny Osehan // Ojai Rancho Inn Location: Ojai, California Size: 18 Rooms + Swimming Pool and Sauna Years lived in: New ownership as of June 12th, 2012 The last time I visited Chris and Kenny was when I photographed their old apartment in Downtown Santa Barbara for their first House Tour. At the time they were running the Presidio Motel on State Street, as well as the Agave Inn.

Name: Lori LaMont and Monte Weiss Location: Belmont Heights – Long Beach, California Size: 1,400 square feet Years lived in: 2 years; Own Lori and Monte live on the top floor of the duplex building that they own. Just mere blocks from the beach, they enjoy an incredibly sunny and well decorated home. Their gorgeous flat is layered with Lori’s paintings, modern fixtures and vintage pieces.

Name: MULU, with Doris Steere (Art Director + Designer)Location: Hollywood — Los Angeles, CaliforniaSize: 3,000 square feetYears lived in: 3 months Mulu is a tech startup, founded by Amaryllis Fox, that powers on-page shopping for publishers like Hearst, Conde Nast, Huffington Post, and Martha Stewart. Mulu’s first year of business was spent in a shared community space, which confirmed their need for a larger office to call their own.

Name: BenicioLocation: Silver Lake- Los Angeles, CARoom Size: 125 Square Feet When you’re the child of a very talented interior designer such as Rosa Beltran, founder of Rosa Beltran Design in Los Angeles, you’re guaranteed to have a pretty awesome nursery. 15-month-old Benicio has an incredible room chock full of fun and inspiration that he’ll get to explore as he grows.
